This is the third set of Value Gear Details sets that I have reviewed. Like the previous two sets, these are another great addition to the model builder. All the sets I have reviewed are in 1/35 scale. However, I need to let the other scale modelers know that he also produces items in the 1/48 and 1/72 range as well. Also, for the Sci-Fi modelers, there are four sets specifically designed for you!

Currently there are only two U.S. distributors of these fine sets. With his move to Arizona he will hopefully be able to pick up some more U.S. shops that will carry his line. Something I did not mention in my other reviews. The Sherman road wheels are not included in the sets. They are used for size purposes only. What is included in this set is a whooping sixteen different crates. While there are several repeats, none of the boxes are the same. Each box has subtle differences in the finish or wood grain texture. One thing I would suggest to Steve is that he might want to include a series of crates with latches, hinges or locks. This may “identify” the boxes but I seriously doubt it. Steve’s motto of “Any Army Any Era!” would probably still be intact and make the crates and boxes more desirable and useable.

Like the previous two sets, there are no pour lugs that need to be removed! This makes using them simple as pie. All that is needed is some sanding and you are ready to go. Like all resin, it is best to give the parts a good soap and brush cleansing to ensure all mold release agents are removed. Remember that resin particles are hazardous and you should always complete these tasks using water to keep the dust down and wear a cheap doctor’s mask to keep the particulates out of your system.

As before, I picked five items out of the set to paint. I opted for some different colors this time around to show that you do not need to do everything in wood. Many Soldiers used excess crates and boxes and crews used them to hold stuff as well. Many times they were painted and marked to show ownership of the crates. I painted, dry brushed, glossed, decaled, and then flat coated the boxes. Just was just a simple example of the things you can come up with in very short order. You only have your imagination to hold you back. All paints used were Model Master. All the decals were from the spares box and all snuggled down well over the paint and wood grain texture. All the items turned out great and I may actually be able to use some on an upcoming build I have going.

I would like to thank Value Gear for making these great and easy to use sets. Thanks to Steve Munsell for providing the samples to review. Thanks also to IPMS/USA for allowing me to review and post these reviews for others to read. Find any of these sets and let your imagination run amuck!
