Sometimes in the model building universe that most of us live in, the planets align just right and a little glimmer of satisfaction shines through. This is the case with these fire extinguishers. I am currently building a conversion of an M3 IDF Sandwich Car. When the review list made its second round and no one had laid claim to the Plusmodel items, I volunteered to do the ones that no one wanted. When they arrived, I thought where and how I could use them instead of just painting and showing them off. Looking over my reference material, I noticed that many of the different Sandwich vehicles and the M3 in particular had fire extinguishers mounted on the right front panel in front of the engine access panel! How neat is that? WooHoo!!!! Confetti everywhere, and too bad not all modeling experiences work out that well.

Like all resin, it is best to give the parts a good soap and brush cleansing to ensure all mold release agents are removed. Then there is the required removal of the pour lug and sanding to finish. Remember that resin particles are hazardous and you should always complete these tasks using water to keep the dust down and wear a cheap doctor’s mask to keep the particulates out of your lungs. The lug in this case is so small, you can clip it with a handy dandy Xuron cutter, apply a quick swipe of a mid-grit sanding stick, and you are done.

The extinguisher was painted Model Master Olive Drab. The base holder for the extinguisher was painted my own early IDF Olive Drab. This is basically a 50/50 mix of Model Master Military Brown and Olive Drab. It was then gloss coated with Future, and then the decals were applied. A little dark wash was added, and then it was given its flat coat. A light dry brushing of Olive Drab and Radome tan and it was ready for mounting. The decal looks great and really sets off the dullness of color.

This is a great little item and you can’t really go wrong for the price. Where else can you get four mounted small fire extinguishers for about $1.20 a pop? Get this set and you won’t be disappointed.

I would like to thank Plusmodel for making, releasing, and donating this set for review, and IPMS/USA for allowing me to review it.
