If you really, I mean really like research, then you know the passion that comes with it. Well so does Fündekals. Their latest release is on the F4U Corsair. This is their second Corsair sheet and it is full of goodies too.

First off, did I miss something? I only got decals. There are no instructions with this sheet. No, that is the norm for Fündekals. To save printing costs, and subsequent costs to you, you can download the instruction booklet online. You can save it and/or print it. The amount of research into the booklet is worth the price of admission.

The decals themselves are printed by B.O.A. so you know they are world class. They are thin, opaque and in register. The sheets are mostly white markings but there are some colorful personal emblems included for the aircraft. The second sheet is the geometric markings for one of the subject aircraft.

There are FIFTEEN Corsairs decals included in this release. That in itself is quite remarkable but even better is that each aircraft is researched thoroughly. There are four view drawings of each subject aircraft as well as plenty of pictures of the actual aircraft, many in full color. A history of each airplane and pilot is included.

To highlight the level of detail there is a special section on the under fuselage drop tanks used. As well as that there are little detail notes, such as the use of steel forks on the one aircraft. It is shown in drawings and photos. Noted researchers, Dana Bell and Jim Sullivan, also has input on some of the aircraft. That is the level of expertise that Fündekals puts into their releases. Details like the running of certain radio wires, are included in the instructions as well. Combat reports are also shown for some of the aircraft and units.

There is a special section on the three drop tanks used on the Corsair and how and when they were used.

As an added benefit there is a modeler section that addresses the Tamiya Corsairs in all three scales and what needs to be done to make them better and more accurate.

The decals are great but the research is what makes this sheet so worth the money. I printed mine out because it just needs to be stored where I can review it often. If you’ve never purchased a set of decals from Fündekals then you have no idea what you are missing out on. I love the booklet and the decals are world class. You will find no better value on the market today. A wealth of knowledge in one little package for a low price. It doesn’t get any better than this.

Highly recommended

Thanks to Fündekals and IPMS/USA for the review copy. While there check out all their other sheets. Everyone is well worth your investment.
