THANK YOU to our friends and suppliers at Aires/Quickboost (“QB”) for this excellent improvement set for the Academy F-4C/D! And thanks also to the reviewer corps leaders for making them available to me to review….

This set takes the kit components and improves them in the usual “Quickboost” manner … in this set, we are presented with all undercarriage doors to improve the Academy F-4C/D. Included in this 10-part set are all the doors for an F-4C/D, including the main gear doors, the main wheel follow-up doors, the main gear follow-up doors, two different Nose gear forward doors with two clear light lens covers, and the nose gear sideways-opening door. As usual with Quickboost, these items are more refined and defined than the kit bits. Check the side-by-side photos for comparison.

I was VERY impressed with this set; the main gear and lower strut follow-up doors have deeper recesses in them than the kit items, giving them a more secure attachment point. The rivet and hardware detail is better than the kit parts, and the only thing missing are attachment hinge brackets for the nose gear doors and the wheel follow-up doors. You can use superglue to attach the kit brackets to the resin parts…

To use this set I recommend leaving all the parts on the pour stub, and paint them separate from the model. A light primer coat, either gray or white, followed by a gloss-white interior and either underside Vietnam light gray, white, or Aircraft gray on the exterior sections, depending on which paint scheme you model. Glue in place after kit completion, unless you are really good and have hands of a surgeon. I’m not, so I guess I fall under the “non-supermodeller” criteria.

Done! This set is highly recommended for improved detail and makes a marked upgrade to the appearance of the kit gear! Thanks again to Quickboost and IPMS USA for providing these items…
