This decal sheet is a commemorative release celebrating twenty-five years of business for Dutch Decals and as such is a “limited edition printing”. As you might expect from a manufacturer with this name, the densely packed sheet supplies decals for three historic aircraft in the KLu/RNeth AF. It has marking for twenty-three options: five Hunters, six Thunderstreaks, and twelve Starfighters. Most are basic operational schemes, but there are some with more colorful options. One is a Hunter sporting a replica of the New Guinea flag on the tail and another is a Starfighter with a shark-mouth and a red/white/blue rudder. While you have a bunch of options to choose from there are, however, roundels for only three aircraft, one of each type. You can get around this limitation if you have the Revell of GermanyHunter by using the kit supplied Dutch national insignia and then using this sheet’s insignia for another version. There are plenty of stencils for each machine. The instruction guide is very complete with full color profiles for each aircraft with paint colors given for the camouflage.

Although I don’t have any of these aircraft on my model bench at this time, I did apply a couple of the decals to a test aircraft. The registry is perfect and the colors look accurate. The white numerals and the white on the national insignia are not as opaque as I would like, though. When I positioned them against dark colors, the background color tended to fade the white a little. The numerals should be OK, but I’d suggest a white background behind the national insignia just to be sure. They responded well to Mr. Mark Softer and snuggled nicely into panel lines.

Both Hannants in the UK and FlightDecs in Canada carry Dutch Decals in their online catalogs, but I didn’t see this particular sheet. I did find it on the Dutch Decal web site for about $18.50.

Overall this is a very nice sheet with some different (here in the US, at least) markings for these jet fighters. I located an ESCI F-104G in my stash and I think it would look great with a shark mouth on it. I would recommend these decals without hesitation. My thanks go to Dutch Decals for providing this commemorative sheet for an IPMS/USA review.
