From the Outside Cover

First published in 1950, Civil Aircraft Markings quickly became the aviation equivalent of Wisden, an indispensable annual publication found on the bookshelves of generations of aviation enthusiast and historians.

At the heart of CAM is the most complete listing of all aircraft currently on the UK Register of Civil Aircraft, over 21,000 entries ranging from historic biplanes through to the latest airliners. CAM also covers light aircraft, micro lights, helicopters, balloons and gliders of every type. For each entry the registration marks, exact aircraft type and owner or operator is given. In addition to the British register the civil aircraft registers of Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man are listed as well as sections from overseas registers of aircraft commonly visiting the UK. CAM also lists the common Airline Flight Codes, radio frequencies for major UK airfields and the complete British Aircraft Preservation Council register.

Review

These books are great reference materials for modelers! This book lists every aircraft on the British Registry from GAAAH through MZUMO, giving type of aircraft with the Owner or Operator. There is also a Military to Civilian Cross Reference list, which cross references the Serial Carried on the aircraft and the Civil Identity. For example TPWX (Luftwaffe) carries civil registry of GTPWX.

This is so handy! So you are at the local airport doing some aircraft spotting and run across an aircraft sporting the civilian registry GCCAB. You look up the registration and find out that GCCAB is a Mainair Blade and is owned and operated by AJ Morris. Also the small size of this register makes it convenient to slip it into your backpack or camera bag. I will have to pickup one of these for the US and Canada.

My thanks to Crecy Publishing and IPMS USA for the opportunity to review this great book.
