CH-54A "Tarhe" Pilots Early in Seats, for ICM Kit (1962-1968)
This ResKit 3D printed resin set includes three crew members: pilot, copilot, and a rear facing crew chief or flight engineer that controls the hoist. The figures come in three incredibly detailed resin blocks. The first includes the three figures seated in CH – 54 seats. The second block includes four heads for the figures. There are options for the pilots’ helmets to have visors down or up. The headsets on the helmet are printed with a gap between the figure’s face and the headset. The crew chief head is molded on the body with the visor up. The third block includes the control levers for the CH – 54.
The ResKit figures are produced in cooperation with ICM so they will fit perfectly into the ICM cockpit.
The pieces are printed in gray resin with amazing detail. Each of the resin blocks has a grid surrounding the printed figures for protection. The grid can be easily cut away, revealing the printed elements and their supports. Supports are numerous but easily snapped off or cut away. The resin used seems fairly hard.
The pilot comes in two pieces, the torso molded with the seat, and optional helmeted heads with visors up or down. His left hand is pointing to the instrument panel. His legs fit comfortably to the ICM pedals, and the straps have nice detail. The ResKit seat has much better detail than the ICM seats.
The co-pilot body is molded to the seat and has optional heads with visor up or down. Hands for the copilot are molded to the control levers and attached separately. The hands and stick for the copilot fit nicely into position in the ICM cockpit.
The crew chief operator comes printed as one piece, including body, arms, head with visor up, and seat. There is a separate control lever for the hoist. The operator is posed looking back over his left shoulder at the pilot.
I assembled all the figures with the visor-up heads so they’re all the same. ResKit calls out some basic paint colors, and I added an olive drab for the seat cushions and aluminum for the seat frame.
The ICM control levers have OK detail, but the ResKit levers are better.
The figures have beautiful, sharp detail, and with 3-D printing there are no mold seams or ejection pins. ResKit beautifully recreates the folds in the figures’ uniforms. All three of the figures fit perfectly into the ICM cockpit and add significant realism to the CH – 54A these figures are a fantastic addition to all the ICM CH-54 kits.
Many thanks to Reskit for producing these wonderful figures and supplying the review sample to IPMS.
