John Vojtech was born near Prague, in the Czech Republic and currently lives in Deerfield near Chicago, Illinois USA with his family. As a young boy, John was taught about modeling by his father. This passion for modeling led him to later teach modeling theory and practice at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. What has long been a hobby is now his profession. Drawing upon his success, John has expanded into new fields, offering consulting services, teaching, seminars, exhibitions, as well as continuing to teach modeling theory and practice to the young generation interested in this work. John Vojtech is also a member of IPMS / USA International Plastic Modelers' Society (National), member of IPMS / Richard I. RP Toolz manufactures specialty modeling tools, including photoetch bending tools, a variety of punch and die sets, and precision miter cutters, just to mention a few of their offerings. RP Toolz Kereskedelmi és Szolgáltató Bt. is based in Budapest, Hungary. One can check out their website, http://www.tptoolz.com, to see their latest tools along with examples on what the tools can do. UMM-USA is a USA distributor for RP Toolz.

The UMM-USA RP-CENT Centralizer Tool 10-80mm is supplied in a plastic snap-top container. The Centralizer Tool is composed of plexiglass, steel, and four plastic knobs. A 3/8” drill bit is also included that fits in the steel tube in the center of the device. Metric measurement markings are etched along all four axes. The top markings on each axis represent the distance from the center point, the lower markings on each axis represent the diameter. RP-CENT notes that this tool is designed to drill a center point into wooden bases, but it should also work with bases of other materials provided the proper drill bit is utilized.

This device is quite simple to use. Measure the diameter of each side of your base and set the knobs on each axis. Place the Centralizer Tool on the base to make sure the knobs are snug to the base to be drilled. Once set, use the supplied drill bit to drill a hole in the base for the metal rod to support the figure. If you wish to use a smaller diameter metal rod, simply use the supplied drill bit to start a hole in the base and then change to your preferred drill bit size. Once the hole is drilled into the base, simply insert the metal rod into the hole and secure with the epoxy of your choice [If desired]. I would note that this tool is designed specifically for figure bases, but it could easily work for model ship display wood pedestals or bases for small model tanks [1/144 or smaller]. The only limitation is the base dimensions must be 80mm or smaller.

If you are looking for modeling tools, UMM-USA is the place to visit. Check out the IPMS Review page for UMM-USA reviews. Having the proper tools for your project will help you to achieve a higher level of quality for your “build”. This RP Toolz Centralizer device fills that role. This product is a superb tool based on the high-quality ergonomics, and ease of use.

Highly recommended!

My thanks to John Vojtech, UMM-USA, and RP Toolz along with IPMS/USA for the chance to review this great modeling tool.
