Thanks to Caracal Models for sending these excellent decals for review. Thank you to the IPMS Reviewer Corps for letting me review them! I am very appreciative of the chance to contribute back to the scale-modeling community.

This review covers the first of two C-45 decal sets from Caracal. The decal set includes 8 statement-sized glossy color illustration pages and two decal sheets for six different paint versions of the C-45 including U, R, or TC-45 types. The target kit is the ICM C-45. Four colorful schemes from NAS Miramar, Oakland, Iwakuni, and Cubi Point make up the USN contingent and the USAF is represented by a gray and white MATS aircraft. Rounding out the decal set is an olive-drab US Army Forces transport. The USN and USAF aircraft are the later long-nacelle versions from the 1960s and the AAF aircraft is an early short-nacelle version from 1944. Aircraft-specific stencils are provided, but overall stenciling is minimal. The decals are very crisp and well-registered, printed by Microscale in the USA. Enough decals are provided to build one of the USN subjects and either the USAF or AAF example. However, with a little substitution of national insignia and propeller warning stripes from other sources, it is possible to build all 6 versions on the set.

Caracal has taken great care in illustrating paint lines and decal placement. The twin tails of the C-45 are shown with inner and outer views as needed, and additional fuselage profiles clearly illustrate paint demarcation lines. Top and bottom views continue this practice and de-icing boot variations are shown. Extra pinstripes for the MATS colors are a thoughtful addition, since I have often needed a “do-over”!

I highly recommend these decals. I am very pleased that Caracal is continuing a diverse series of new releases and offerings. Thanks again to Caracal Models for sending this decal sheet for review. Thank you to the IPMS Reviewer Corps for letting me review them, it is a much appreciated privilege.
