The sit of the Bf-109 places a lot of stress on the landing gear legs on the real airplane.

Eduard has released a set of brass landing gear in their Brassin range of aftermarket items. This simple set is packaged in a blister pack with foam protecting the four parts inside. There are two brass landing gear legs and two resin gear covers.

The brass legs are perfectly formed with just a little pour nub on the top of the strut that will need to be sanded down ever so slightly. The rest is beautiful detail. The purist of 109 freaks will say that this is only the earliest style of 109 landing gear strut, used on the F and Gs, or the Gustav up to the early versions of the G-6. If you are that much of a stickler for landing gear struts more power to you. You can use this set on any of the models that Eduard has released so far.

Construction is simple enough. Remove the doors from the pour blocks, sand slightly and add to the Brass strut. The brass strut itself doesn’t really need any clean up other than the very top of the strut and then only slightly. Painting things are easy enough. RLM 02 is used for most of the strut and the inside of the door.

If there is a downside, it would be the brake line which should be a loop but in the set is a straight hose from the tubing on the brass strut to the wheel. This didn’t bother me that much as most of it isn’t seen. The tubing and piping on the strut itself are what will stand out. That and the door mechanism.

I recently reviewed the Bf-109F brass landing gear set and I have, to be honest, I can’t see the difference between the two. I’ve looked. Does that make it any less accurate? Not at all. Like I said this strut is for the early versions of the Gustav up to the G-6.

Adding the gear is simple either with superglue or epoxy. I prefer epoxy as it is stronger, slightly flexible and gives me some time to set the angles.

Strength, added realism, and easy to use. This is what I want from a brass landing gear set, not just a copy of the kit parts. Eduard has delivered another winner. I’ll be using these on future kits as well. Well done Eduard.
