It is no secret that I love the Eduard Bf-109Gs. While they are state of the art kits there is always something that can be ‘upgraded’. The latest Brassin Upgrade for the Eduard kit is an external drop tank and ETC rack.

Packaged in vacuformed packaging typical of many of the Brassin line, inside of this are two drop tanks and two ETC racks. Molded in light grey resin the two drop tanks represent different configuration tanks. One with crimped end and the other the simplified tank. The ETC racks are beautifully rendered and some of the most accurate racks available on the market. Inside this set is also a set of decals with the stencils in black and red.

The instructions are simple to follow. You will have to slice off the four parts of plastic, which is easy enough to do. A hole will have to be drilled as well but this is also easy enough to do. The cleanup is easy too. The hardest part will be the ETC rack, which has a little stiffener between the mounts for the tank. I recommend not removing this until the ETC rack is removed from the main pour block. This will preserve the detail until ready to attach. I sliced down vertically with a new blade and then just used some tweezers to remove the stiffeners. Clean up after that was easy.

The resin pieces have remarkable detail including the weld marks on the joins. The hardest part is to remove the pour block from the nose of the tanks and keep the front smooth. The real things did take a beating so it is not a big deal if you ‘ding’ the tank nose. The ETC racks are beautiful as well with the added detail of the tubing.

Eduard could have taken the easy way out and just included one ETC rack but they were nice enough to include two so you can outfit TWO kits with these drop tanks and racks. Of course they will be slightly different because of the two styles of drop tanks but it is still a deal.

My set of decals was stuck to the ‘protective’ paper. I tried my best to get it off and not ruin the decals but couldn’t. Luckily the kit decals worked well enough. The Brassin decals were a slightly different color and had more finesse, but I couldn’t get enough to do one tank. I did notice that the orientation of some of the markings is different than the kits markings. I’m not sure which orientation is correct.

Impressive detail, low price, and easy to add upgrade. What more could you ask for? Another winner from Eduard. The only downside was the protective paper sticking to the decals. Using the kit decals proved that this was not a big deal. With all these upgrades it will be hard to decide which ones to add. I’ll definitely be using this upgrade again.
