48 Scale Package

Angle of Attack probes are used on all aircraft. They measure the angle between the wing and the airflow which is what controls the lift generated by the wings. Without going deep into it, it lets the pilot know when a stall might be coming. Master Models from Poland, known for their excellent metal parts, has made a set of replacement AoA probes for modern jets. There are five pieces included in either the 1/48th or 1/32nd sets. One of the great things about these sets is that they can be used on multiple air frames. The instructions list F-4, F-14, F-15, F-16, F-18, F-111, Draken, Viggen, Gripen and many more. And with the number of parts, you can do multiple kits.

1/32nd scale

Inside the packages, you will find five finely machined AoA probes in either scale. Installation is simple in either scale. For the 1/32nd scale version, you remove the (usually) molded in probe and drill a 0.5mm hole in the kit. Glue in the replacement and paint as needed. For the 1/48th scale, drill a 1mm hole and the rest of the process is the same. The difference between the two is size of course, but the attachments points are larger in 1/48th scale.

You can see by the comparison photos the Master Model parts are sharper and more exact than molded parts. It adds that extra little bit of realism to a kit or, in my case, since I lose or break off parts this offers a great alternative versus trying to fabricate one.

Highly recommended for ease of use and better accuracy. Get some now! My thanks to Master Model and IPMS/USA for the opportunity to review these items.
