Bullpup Missiles

Eduard continues its releases of highly detailed missiles with an AGM-12C Bullpup. The Bullpup was the first mass produced air-to-surface guided missile and entered production in 1965. The missile was carried by F-4’s and F-105’s and, unfortunately, it was not particularly effective. Also note that the “C” version would not necessarily be appropriate to earlier aircraft. In any case, check your references.

The set comes with part to produce four complete missiles. This includes forty resin parts and a set of decals. 32 of the parts are perfectly cast fins- four main fins and four small fins. The main body and engine are two separate parts. Casting is prefect and very well defined.

To build one, you need to separate the parts from their casting blocks. Make sure the main body and engine are square as they are joined together and this will minimize any filling. I joined these, applied a small amount of putty and let it dry. Once dry, I used a cotton bud and lacquer thinner to smooth the seam and no sanding was required. Keep the cotton bud a little damp and throw away once contaminated and this will work perfectly. Next, the fins need cut off. I used sprue nippers and cut them free at the base from the casting gate. I them trimmed them back with the nippers and finished cleaning with a knife very gently. Prior to adding them to the body, I dressed the missiles nose a little (it is very pointy) and the fins were glued in place. Eduard has done a nice job of adding locating pins to it so they slot in nicely. After things were dry, I who it with Alclad gray primer and let it dry.

For paint, you can paint it any color of white you would like! I used Tamiya acrylic white thinner with lacquer thinner for a nice gloss finish. Once dry, the decals were added and then a thin wash of black and the missile sealed with Dullcoat and we’re done.

This is a much better representation of this missile than available elsewhere. One thing that gets missed during building sometimes is the need for excellent armament. This set and Eduard’s others will raise your kits to a new level. Highly recommended.

My thanks to Eduard and IPMS/USA for the chance to build and review
