A-10A/C Thunderbolt II Aces II Ejection Seat
ResKit has provided the IPMS reviewer corps with a new 3D resin printed Aces II ejection seat for the A-10A/C Thunderbolt II in 1/48th scale.
In the Package and Product Notes
There is one 3D printed resin seat packaged in a small but very sturdy cardboard box. It is printed with a sturdy travel frame along with foam inserts for extra protection. A small decal sheet is provided for the stencils and a well-illustrated instruction sheet for paint and decal placement.
Review Process
Removal of the seat starts with cutting away the protective frame. Then carefully removing the support piers. The printing is so fine at the contact points that no sanding was necessary to clean up any support nubs.
After that, a primer base coat of Tamiya XF-66 thinned with lacquer was airbrushed. Once dry, Vallejo acrylics were used to color up the seat. Next, a coat of clear gloss (Future) for decal prep was brushed on. Lastly, a flat of AK interactive Ultra Clear Matt was airbrushed and it was considered done.
In the pictures you can see a side-by-side comparison with Academy’s A-10C Thunderbolt II (Kit No. 12348). The ResKit 3D print is a superior upgrade versus the kit seat.
Conclusions
Highly Recommended! This is wonderful 3D printed ejection seat. Very fine detail and all you really need to do is paint and add decals. It will add more interest to the cockpit of your 1/48th scale A-10A/C Thunderbolt II.
I want to thank ResKit for providing the 3D printed set and IPMS/USA for allowing me the opportunity to review.
