Bases by Bill produces display bases, display cases, and associated products. This particular item is part of their Painted Display Bases line. It is made of hardwood cut in a 10” diameter round shape with a thickness of ~¾”. The base is painted on the top and sides, with this particular one displaying the Messerschmitt logo in black and white. Quality is very good. The paint finish has a light satin coat. It looks durable. The bottom is sanded smooth and has a horizontal keyhole slot cut toward the upper side so that it can be hung on a wall.
The 10” (2.54cm) base is one of the standard sizes for these bases. The site says that 10” and 15” are standard and they accommodate custom size orders. However, I also noticed there is a size selector for this particular base that offers 10”, 16”, 20”, and 24” diameter options, covering most needs. Bases by Bill has many ready designs, including manufacturers, squadrons, and national roundels, available in round, square, rectangular, and even squadron patch shapes. They can also do custom designs. Prices vary by complexity.
To give Messerschmitt modelers a sense of size and proportion, I have included some photos of Bf 109 and Me 262 models (1/72 and 1/48) on the 10” base. The 1/48 Bf 109 fits very nicely, but I bet a 1/72 Me-110 would look good, too. Thanks to John Miller for providing his stunning models.
I can highly recommend these Bases by Bill products for any modeler that wants a very polished and professional base for their model.
I would like to thank Bases for Bill for providing the Messerschmitt base for review, and to IPMS USA for giving me the opportunity to evaluate it.
