Nakajima Ki-44-II Exhaust Stacks

Published:
Company: Quickboost

The folks at Quickboost continue to add superb detail sets to their growing catalog of items. For this review I will be looking at the exhaust detail set for the 1/48 Hasegawa Ki-44 II “Tojo” family of kits.

Hasegawa has released many different boxings of the Japanese WWII Shoki Fighter, and from what I see in my collection, this Quickboost set will work with any of the Ki-44 II kits.

The Quickboost exhaust stacks themselves are finely molded, and are very easily removed from the casting block. I find that using a razor saw is the easiest method, and after a little sanding, these great detail parts are ready to glue in place.

As you can see from the photo, the detail is far above the kit part that these replace. The exhaust well is deeper and more… more

This superb detail set is designed to work with the 1/48 Hasegawa Mitsubishi F1M2 “Pete”. The “Pete” was a WWII Japanese reconnaissance floatplane. This biplane was inititally designed for reconnaissance, but was used as a bomber and fighter as well.

Imperial Japanese Army Medium Tank Type 3 'CHI-NU' Long Barreled Version

Published:
Company: Fine Molds

Fine Molds continues to add to their great line of WWII Japanese Armor – this time with a variant of the Type 3 “CHI-NU” Tank. This up-gunned long barreled version of the Type 3 was a paper-only project. The variant was expected to go into production in 1946, but as we know the war ended before then. It was thought that the gun on the Type 3 would not be sufficient to knock out US Armor at long ranges, so plans were drawn up to fit the Type 3 tank with a long barrel 75mm gun.

This kit is exactly the same as the other Type 3 “CHI-NU”, with the addition of the sprues for the longer barrel, and turret parts. In fact with this boxing, you will end up with some extra parts for your stash, as some of the parts from the earlier release are included, but not used. The kit’s 203 parts… more

French Air Force Dewoitine 520, MS.500, NC.900, DH-82 Tiger Moth, Ki-43 Oscar

Company: Dutch Decal

When I first “signed up” to do a review of these decals, I wasn’t familiar with the company, or what would be on the sheet. I was interested in the Ki-43 markings, as I find myself building mostly Japanese aircraft recently. When the package arrived, I was very pleasantly surprised at what I saw!

PT Decals sheet #48002 covers some captured WWII Axis aircraft in French service. The decal sheet itself is very well done with markings for all the aircraft listed below. The decals are all in perfect register, and appear to be of the highest quality on the market today. The lower right of the sheet reads “Pierre Tilley / Dutch Decal 2010; Produced in the EEC”

Included with the decals is a very nice, full color fold out with profiles of each of the aircraft represented on the… more
