The folks at Quickboost continue to add superb detail sets to their growing catalog of items. For this review I will be looking at the Exhaust detail set for the 1/48 Hasegawa F1M2 “Pete” family of kits.

This superb detail set is designed to work with the 1/48 Hasegawa Mitsubishi F1M2 “Pete”. The “Pete” was a WWII Japanese reconnaissance floatplane. This biplane was inititally designed for reconnaissance, but was used as a bomber and fighter as well.

The Quickboost Exhaust parts are finely molded, and are very easily removed from the casting block. I find that using a razor saw is the easiest method, and after a little sanding, these great detail parts are ready to glue in place.

The detail is far above the kit parts that these replace. I personally like the fact that these are in ONE piece – the exhaust stacks that come with the kit are molded in two parts, so you have a seam you need to deal with inside the stack. These are much better to use – both in terms of detail, and ease of construction. For that reason, I think this is the best Quickboost exhaust detail set I have seen to date. All of these wonderful sets are an improvement over the kit parts, but this set for the “Pete” has the added benefit of being much easier to use than the one that comes with the kit.

Having used these detail sets in the past, I can say that these will virtually “fall into place”, and there is no surgery required. They are designed to fit the kit perfectly. Simply paint each part, add a little wash/weathering, and fit the parts into place on the fuselage. I cannot think of an easier upgrade to a kit! Quickboost detail sets add more life to the model, and a higher level of realism with very convincing results.

I highly recommend these sets to anyone wishing to add a little more detail to their “Pete” without much work or expense. This set will actually save you time, as you won’t have to deal with the seam of the kit parts.
