2015 Ford Mustang GT SnapTitePublished: July 4, 2014 I usually write about various aircraft-related items, but when I saw this Revell 2015 SnapTite Mustang I thought my son could pitch in and help with a review. He is almost nine, is an IPMS Junior member, and has several models under his belt. William primarily builds aircraft—like his dad—but the Mustang is one of his favorite cars. While most of his builds have been glued together and painted… more |

Aces High Magazine, Issue #1Published: December 28, 2021 The name AK Interactive is probably familiar to many of us as a provider of some very useful weathering products. Although their weathering products work with any model, AK has primarily marketed its products to armor modelers. Recently, however, they have started producing some aircraft-specific products, such as the AK Air Series which currently has “Air Paint” sets (just Luftwaffe and RAF,… more |

N1K2-J Shiden-Kai Gun Barrels for Hasegawa KitsPublished: June 23, 2014 Aires is constantly adding to the Quickboost line, and here is one of the latest. QB 48-602 are gun barrels designed to be used with Hasegawa’s 1/48 N1K2-J. As with other Quickboost products, these are meant to be drop-fit replacements for kit parts. The molding on this resin set was extremely crisp. In comparing these to the kit items they are designed to replace, I found a… more |

Morane-Saulnier MS.406 AcesPublished: May 27, 2014 Osprey Publishing has released another new title in the ever-expanding Aces series, Morane-Saulnier MS.406 Aces. As the title reveals, this time around the subject is the French Morane-Saulnier MS.406 and the aces who flew it. This book is slightly different than most others in the series, as it covers not only MS.406 aces of the French Air Force, but also those flying for the Finnish… more |

Yankee Merlin Roars! (Part 3)Published: May 27, 2014 This is one of four P-51 decal sheets produced by a new decal maker, A.M.D.G. Decals. A.M.D.G. seems to be one of those companies “by and for” modelers. If you have a look at the company website, you will find their philosophy on the “About Us” page. They seem to have a very enthusiastic and passionate approach to this, and this decal sheet does a great job of demonstrating it! This… more |

Ki-45 Nick Exhausts and Ki-45 (Kai Tei) Gun BarrelsPublished: March 16, 2014 Quickboost recently added 2 new sets in their line-up specifically for the Hasegawa 1/48 Ki-45 “Nick”. These are recommended for Hasegawa’s kits, but might also work with the old Nichimo one. As with other Quickboost products, these are meant to be drop-fit replacements for kit parts. The molding on both of these resin sets was extremely crisp. QB 48-571 contains two different… more |

Messerschmitt Me 410Published: March 5, 2014 With the recent releases (and re-releases) of a few Me 410 kits, MMP’s book on the aircraft is quite timely. The first 10 (out of 120) pages of this book describe the rather convoluted developmental history of the Messerschmitt Me 410, actually starting with the Me 210. The blurred lines between what constitutes a late Me 210 and an early Me 410 are well described. In fact, as the… more |

V1 Flying Bomb AcesPublished: January 14, 2014 One of Osprey’s latest in the “Aircraft of the Aces” series is number 113, covering Allied pilots that shot down 5 or more V1 Flying Bombs. This book opens with the words of the first pilot to shoot down a V1 (Flt Lt John Musgrove, in a night-fighter Mosquito) on June 16, 1944. Within minutes, 3 more V1s would be shot down that evening by other members of the same Mosquito squadron.… more |

F6F Hellcat WheelsPublished: September 9, 2013 One of the only complaints I have seen regarding the superlative 1/48 F6F Hellcat released by Eduard a few years ago was with respect to the wheels provided in the kit. The kit parts are considered to be too thin, most likely representing the wheels/tires fitted to the prototype and very early Hellcats. Ironically, Eduard themselves have now release a Brassin wheel set for the F6F that… more |

WWII Luftwaffe Fighter Fabric SeatbeltsPublished: August 26, 2013 This is the second product in Eduard’s FABRIC line of seatbelts I have had the pleasure of reviewing. Earlier. I reviewed the 1/32 WWII USAAF fabric seatbelts at http://web.ipmsusa3.org/content/wwii-usaaf-fabric-seatbelts This set is very similar to the USAAF one, with additional detail to reflect the higher… more |
