Bregun has provided a better option for the flare dispensers that are either blanked off or poorly represented on most kits in this scale. The AN/ALE 39/47 dispenser system is used on the F-16, F-18 as well as some helicopters and transports. The real system can accommodate mixed decoys in the same pack. These are programable, to release in predetermined or automatic order. Brengun duplicates the canister boxes in resin and the frame of the mounting boxes in PE. The canisters are molded fully loaded with 30 decoys. Installation consists of opening a 4x9mm hole for the resin parts. The PE frames fit precisely over the canisters. The resin is typical of Brengun meaning it's easy to work with. The cut outs need to be very precise since the PE frames won’t cover any overcut. While not an easy installation, this set offers an improvement over most of the kit molded options out there.

Thank you to Brengun for providing the sample and to IPMS for letting me have a go at it.

Villers-Bocage in Normandy has, for years, been the battle that made the reputation of Nazi Germany’s tank ace, the SS hero, Michael Wittmann. In this book the battle is analyzed in depth for the first time through detailed examination of the images taken by war photographers after the town was captured by German forces.

One of the latest in Mushroom Model Publications’ White Series, Finnish Aces. Their Planes and Units 1939-1945 follows up earlier volumes on Finnish aircraft: (2021’s Finnish & German Seaplane Colours, Finland 1939-1945; 2018’s Finnish Jet Colours; 2018’s Finnish Bomber Colours, 1939-1945; 2015’s Finnish Fighter Colours, 1939-1945, Volume 2; and 2014’s Finnish Fighter Colours, 1939-1945, Volume 1); MMP is calling this book part of their "Rainbow Series." I'm guessing that refers to their large format camouflage and markings set of books in their "White" series that have addressed Bulgaria, Finland, Hungarian, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, and Sweden. This series seems to share a commonality of discussing the specific topic of the evolution of a countries' evolution in markings. To that end, this book utilizes many previously un-published pictures and focuses in on individual aircraft to supplement with superb color illustrations.

German armor of WWII has had, to say the least, a lot written about with many, many models coming out to support the literature. Tamiya continues to release wonderful 1/48th scale kits of German armor and the latest is a Tiger I from Early Production for the Eastern front. Inside the box, you will find a new bottom hull from another kit and decals for 2 Eastern front Tiger’s:

  • No. 233, 2nd Company, 503rd Heavy Panzer Battalion
  • No. 213, 2nd Company, 502nd Heavy Panzer Battalion

Looking into the box, the majority of parts are either road wheels or tracks. Tracks are straight runs with separate individual tracks to go round the front and back wheels. There are ~ 26 pieces per side for the tracks. I will say this up front, fit is super all the way around.

Detail and Scale has been a cornerstone reference for modelers for decades covering all types of aircraft in great detail. The Color & Markings series does just that, cover the color and markings of a specific set of planes in great detail with superb pictures and detailed test. This book, Part 3, written by Bert Kinzey and Rock Roszak, covers the F-14 Tomcat prototypes, test, evaluation and adversary aircraft.

The table of contents is large and gives a great view of things to come:

This is the 81st book in the Kagero Monographs series covering aircraft in details, photos, and diagrams. This book is the third volume to cover the Mitsubishi A6M Reisen Zeke.

I found the photographs in this book to be fascinating and very detailed, ideal for any modeler as reference materials. The photographs are extremely good and many I have never seen. The photos provide great details for super detailing any scale model version of the A6M Zeke.

Along with the many photos there are outline drawings, schematics, and very nice profile drawings. The cockpit instrument photos are also a great addition. It would have been great to also include a color photo next to these for reference, but this is a minor issue.

I recommend this book to everyone with an interest in the Zeke and a must for modelers.

Thanks go to Casemate Publishing for providing this book to review and IPMS USA for allowing me to review it.

OKB Grigorov specializes in resin, photoetch and turned metal barrel conversions for armor. One of their latest releases is the tracks for the German Tiger (P), Ferdinand and Elefant (Early)

This aftermarket set includes parts in grey resin. As you can see from the pictures, the casting of the parts is pretty good, without any bubbles in the resin and small attachment points.

This set provides 6 sections of track and the pictures show the fantastic level of detail of the tracks, both inside and outside sides. To my surprise, there were also some wheels included in the set, even when the set name only lists “Tracks” being part of it.

This aftermarket set includes parts in grey resin. As you can see from the pictures, the casting of the parts is pretty good, without any bubbles in the resin and small attachment points.

This set provides 12 double wheels (running wheels) and the pictures show the fantastic level of detail of the tracks, both inside and outside sides.

Only the running wheels are provided in the set. No sprocket wheels are provided in the set, although the Tracks set includes them (see review elsewhere in this website).

Overall, this set is well done and will require minimum cleaning of the parts for assembly.

Highly recommended, mainly for those modelers looking to super-detail their kits.

I would like to thank OKB Grigorov and IPMS/USA for the review sample.

OKB Grigorov specializes in resin, photoetch, and turned metal barrel conversions for armor. One of their latest releases is the tracks for the Russian T-34 mod.1942, Factory 112 “Red Sormovo”.

This aftermarket set includes parts in grey resin. As you can see from the pictures, the casting of the parts is pretty good, without any bubbles in the resin and small attachment points.

This set provides 4 sections of track, and the pictures show the fantastic level of detail of the tracks, both inside and outside sides.

The sections of track been cast flat, so you would have to gently bend them to shape, using the wheels from the kit to get the proper curvature radius. The resin is very thin, so this should be relatively easy. I would suggest dipping the tracks in hot water before bending them around the wheels and dipping them in cold water afterwards to “set” the curvature in.
