RES_IM, a small company out of Czechoslovakia, continues to add to its list of quality aftermarket and modeling supply products, this time with a package of ten generic wooden boxes in 1/35th scale.

The small, sturdy box contains three separate baggies of resin parts mounted on casting blocks. Two large, square boxes, three medium-sized rectangular flat boxes and five smaller, square flat boxes. All boxes are solid resin and sealed. All contain excellent fine wood grain and cross members representing generic crates. No decals, markings or instructions are included – although I’m pretty sure instructions aren’t needed here!

The resin boxes must be separated their casting blocks of resin, and this is no simple task. The entire bottoms of the boxes are attached, so it takes a little time and patience to separate the boxes from their backing, and it generates a lot of resin dust.

I used a figurine clamp and a (UMM USA) JLC Micro Saw to do the job, finishing with a coarse piece of sandpaper mounted to a flat piece of wood. All in all, I think spent about 4-5 minutes per box, time which is certainly worth the result – finely detailed ‘wooden’ boxes ready for any 1/35th scale truck bed or diorama.

I painted and finished everything by applying a primer coat of Krylon (rattlecan) Flat Black lacquer paint, followed by a coat of Tamiya XF-57 Buff, thinned 50/50 with Gunze Mr. Color Leveling Thinner. Once dry I gave each box a filter of Old Holland Sepia Extra Oil Paint.

I recommend this RES-IM product for any modeler who wants to add a little realism to their work with quality after-market products, although some may have trouble with separating the boxes from the casting blocks. Once painted and weathered, however, they look right at home in any diorama or AFV.

I would like to heartedly thank RES_IM for providing this product for review, and to IPMS USA for giving me the opportunity to review it.
