I’m a sucker for oddities and non-standard schemes when it comes to finishing my model aircraft. I saw the Iliad designs offering for Stearman PT-17 airframes and thought this is the set for me. I was pleasantly surprised to see Iliad design proved a full set of five decal options. So you have five kits in your stash? You’re covered in this one set. Along with a very nice color representation of the each aircraft scheme Iliad Design goes the extra mile to describe any non-standard colors or more specifically non-stand color shades. Each scheme as one would expect come with a short description of each aircraft.

  • PT-17 used by the 4BFTs (British Flight Training School) in Mesa Arizona. Early 1940’s (Blue / Yellow)
  • PT-17 stationed at Kunming, China 1943 (Dark Green / Dark Earth)
  • N2S-3 unknown location. ( Aluminum dope / Yellow)
  • N2S-4 stationed at Grosse Ile, Michigan 1943. (Blue / Yellow, with one grey wing panel)
  • PT-27 RCAF stationed at Pearce, Alberta Canada 1942. (Orange Yellow)

Taking a close look at the decals themselves, they look nice and thin and in great register. The carrier film does extend past the edge of the decals but not by very much at all. The opacity appears to be good and it shouldn’t present any problems at all.

I’ve very happy with this set and I want to thank Iliad design for this fantastic set of decals to spiff up my Revell PT-17 kit. I want to also thank the IPMS USA review corps for allowing me the honor of reviewing this fine set of decals.
