The June issue contains two Feature articles. Feature 1 is entitled, “Arthurian Legend” and is nine pages of images coupled with an excellent description of how Chris Fleet built his Airfix Agusta Westland Merlin HC3. Interestingly, Chris shares his use of copper wire to simulate detail within the model. Two pages of full-color images of a real Merlin add to the trove of detailed information that one can use when building this Airfix kit.

Feature 2, by Neil Pinchbeck, covers the Revell Supermarine Stranraer in 1/72nd scale. Neil’s article covers how he dealt with the rigging (oh, those hated double stands!), cutting the canopy open, and adding rivet detail. Neil’s work is outstanding, both on the model itself and then within his article.

The Aviation in Profile article is by Brian Wakeman, and it features the Kinetic BAe Hawk 100 kit in 1/32nd scale. In keeping with the Canada Day theme set by Editor Jay Laverty, Brian’s Hawk is in Canadian markings and is truly a work of art. Brian’s review of the Kinetic kit provides a solid foundation upon which modelers can build their own Hawks.

As is the case in each issue of SAM, there are a number of Compact Build Reviews.

• Massimo Santarossa reviews the Special Hobby B-18 Bolo. In Canada it was known as the Douglas Digby.
• Dai Williams tackles an already popular Wingnut Wings Sopwith Snipe. Dai’s skills are certainly equal to the challenge and workmanship of this WNW kit.
• Shaun Schofield reviews the 1/72nd Academy F-8E Crusader. Shaun’s “wash” on this model is fantastic!
• Karl Robinson reviews the Airfix 1/72nd scale Mustang IV. Karl puts the Mustang in a full metal jacket…just a beautiful job on an all-natural metal finish.
• Another helicopter project makes its way into this issue of SAM. James Aston reviews the Revell Westland Sea Lynx Mk 88a. James sets off his Sea Lynx by putting the rotors in the stowed position.
• Jay Laverty puts away his editor’s cap for a bit and reviews the Airfix Hawker Typhoon Mk 1b in 1/72nd scale. Jay demonstrates how to apply Humbrol Weathering Powder in his review of the “Tiffie,” and thusly the reader is treated to a “two-fer”.

As always, SAM is highly recommended for its content and excellent reference information.
