Scale Aircraft Modelling is an excellent monthly publication focusing on modeling scale aircraft. The name of the publication gives that bit of information away rather easily.

Averaging just under 100 pages, SAM is filled with “build” articles featuring some of the newer kits on the market as well as projects based on old favorites. In this issue (Vol 34, Issue 09) a number of featured articles cover a range of subjects, both jet and prop.

Neil Pinchbeck, also featured in the last issue, provides an excellent article presenting the Valom Scale Aircraft Saunders Roe A.29 Cloud. The Cloud is a seaplane used by some British airlines in the early ‘30s. Neil’s article provides an excellent guide for those who wish to construct this kit of a rather nostalgic aircraft.

Staying with twin-engine prop subjects, Jay Laverty describes his work on the HK B-25. Jay pulls no punches in his description of this kit’s “rough” parts, and also praises when appropriate.

Jamie Haggo continues the focus on twin-engine props. Jamie shares his techniques which culminated in a superior paint scheme and detail enhancement of Eduard’s 1/72nd Bf-110E. The images of the instrument panels and the exterior camo job are fantastic.

Moving forward to jets, Karl Robinson describes his work on Revell’s EF-2000 in 1/72nd scale. No kit is without its issues and Mr. Robinson lays out both the good and the not so good, concluding that Revell produced a superior model.

Yoav Efrati presents an article covering the High Planes Models 1/72nd scale IAI Nesher. To accompany his excellent “build” article, Yoav also provided a short article on the real item. The accompanying images are a much appreciated research tool for the builder.

Lastly, Onur Kurc builds the Revell 1/72nd scale RF-4E in Turkish markings. A three-page spread provides some the best cockpit images I’ve seen yet for the RF-4E. Some great color profiles and a 3-view foldout complete the package.

As always, each SAM issue includes advertisements that will give the modeler some idea as to new products arriving in the marketplace, as well as where those products can be found.

SAM is high recommended. The reader is provided with simple descriptions of modeling techniques written by world-class modelers. Each article is accompanied by an array of color images that are as instructional as the text in the article. Thanks to SAM for the review sample and IPMS/USA for the review opportunity.
