UMM-USA is dedicated to fine scale modeling, encompassing model kits, accessories, and specialized tools. Owned by John Vojtech, a fine scale modeling veteran. UMM-USA is an on-line Store, importing and exporting kits, modeling tools and supplies, and seeks and offers solutions on technical issues. In addition, his services currently include design and production of master parts, casting of original masters, photo-etched masks, decals, and building made-to-order models for customers. John Vojtech was born near Prague, in the Czech Republic and currently lives in Deerfield near Chicago, Illinois USA with his family. As a young boy, John was taught about modeling by his father. This passion for modeling led him to later teach modeling theory and practice at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. What has long been a hobby is now his profession. Drawing upon his success, John has expanded into new fields, offering consulting services, teaching, seminars, exhibitions, as well as continuing to teach modeling theory and practice to the young generation interested in this work. John Vojtech is also a member of IPMS / USA International Plastic Modelers' Society (National), member of IPMS / Richard I. Bong Chapter (Milwaukee, Wisconsin), IPMS / Lakes Region Scale Modelers (Crystal Lake, Illinois), IPMS / Butch O'Hare Chapter (Downers Grove, Illinois) as well as AMPS Armour Modeling Preservation Society (Illinois).

The UMM-USA WPS001 Professional Grade Sanding Sheets come in a multi-grit set inside a sealed zip-locked plastic bag. These sanding sheets come in a set of eight sheets that are 8"x11". Each sheet is a different grit and includes: 320, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000, and 2500. Each sheet is waterproof to assure the grit will not disappear under wet sanding. The sheets are flexible enough to wrap around sanding sticks of your choice, and especially UMM-USA’s sanding sticks: UMM21 through UMM27.

One can quickly learn that not all waterproof sanding sheets are equivalent. Issues that often appear are cracking in the sandpaper, especially if doubled up or sanding around an edge. Additional problems will reveal the grit disappearing quickly where used. To test these problems, I cut out a small length out of each of the eight sheets. I then used progressive grits to sand down the edges of the Atlantis 1/25 1923 Competition Dragster where there was significant flash as can be seen in the attached photographs. One can see from the pictures that the rough edge has been removed and polished down. Not a single one of the sanding sheets revealed any cracking or other damage from sanding, despite being folded over or wrapped around a sanding stick. Not a single one of the sanding sheet strips revealed any uneven wear, even when folded. I will note that I allowed the sanding sheets to work under faucet water and that I let the grit do the work. This was both from using the sanding sheet with my fingers and using the sanding sheet wrapped around a sanding stick. Will these sanding sheets wear out? I’m sure with enough use, they will, but I was quite pleased with their performance on removing the edge on the plastic.
