I guess the most important thing to keep in mind about this review item is that it is designed and fitted for the 20 plus year old 1/48 Mauve/Eduard kit and the similarly aged Academy P-40N/M. This aftermarket set is not intended for the new 2025 Eduard P-40 N and possibly forthcoming M.

Try as I might, I could not find an Academy example for this review, so all photos and comments are based on the Mauve/Eduard P-40M. As you can see from the photos, the main landing gear are much more detailed and realistic than the kit examples. You might notice that in my review example one of the retraction arms is short shot and the tail wheel had a void on the underside where it would touch the ground. Both problems are easily solved by the experienced modeler, or from my experience SAC have always been good at correcting mistakes and replacing a defective part. Also, this box was mislabeled as P-49 N/M, which generated some confusion at the reviewer corps. I understand that SAC are reworking their online marketing website and this may have contributed to confusion on their part.

Fit of the parts was excellent except for the Eduard cast resin wheels, which will have to be drilled out to accept the SAC axles. If the kit wheels are used, they are a snug press fit. For those with no experience working with white metal, the SAC website includes information explaining how to work with this malleable yet strong material.

This aftermarket set brings the much older Mauve/Eduard and Academy kits closer to modern standards. Great thanks to Scale Aircraft Conversions and IPMS for the chance to review this product.
