P-39Q/N Airacobra Exhaust Replacement
Aires has provided the Reviewer Corps with Quickboost drop-in resin replacement exhaust tubes for Arma Hobby’s P-39Q/N Airacobra in 1/72nd scale.
In the Package and Product Notes
The sample review came in a plastic bag with a cardboard backing. There are no instructions for this set. For the Arma Hobby kit, they are replacements for part 52, quantity 2.
There are two (2) exhaust tubes from the traditional pour moldings for these resin replacements (not 3D generated). The quality is excellent, and the tube ends have holes molded in, so no drilling is required. Also, the base identifies which tube goes on the right and left side since there is a slight angle to the mounting surface when installed.
Review Process
I started by giving the resin part a warm soapy bath to remove any release agent.
Next, I primed the surface with Mr. Surfacer 1000 gray. Once dry, I applied Vallejo Aluminum as a metallic base coat. This was followed by washes of very thinned Vallejo Black, Brown, and Red to give it a worn-rusty look. To darken the exhaust holes, I added thinned black paint with a fine point brush.
After everything was dry, I used a Prismacolor Gold pencil to highlight the centerline weld seams for each tube. This was followed by a dusting of ground up black charcoal to replicate exhaust residue on the surface. Once I saw the look I wanted, I called it good.
Conclusions
This is a great traditional resin set if you want to replace the exhaust tubes on your P-39Q/N Airacobra in 1/72nd scale. Just wash and add paint.
I want to thank Aires and Quickboost for providing the resin set and IPMS/USA for allowing me the opportunity to review.
Highly Recommend to everyone who wants to add more detail to their P-39Q/N Airacobra!
