Military Miniatures In Review (MMIR) is a bi-monthly publication by The Ampersand Group of armor and other military vehicles. Each issue typically contains new product reviews and detailing articles, as well as regular monthly features. The magazine is 8.5 x 11 and includes 80 pages printed on a high-quality gloss paper. MMIR is a high quality publication and my favorite modeling magazine.

Articles this issue include:

The M103, A Primer, Part 2

A walkaround and detailed photos of a M103 tank at the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment Museum at Fort Hood. This particular tank is a T43EI. Various details are shown in high-quality photographs of the tank exterior.

Napoleon Complex, The Little Renault Goes Big!

This is a 12 page step-by-step build and finishing of Takom’s Renault FT in 1/16 scale. A brief history of the vehicle is followed by detailed photographs of the assembly and finishing of the tank kit. The author bases the kit on a reference photo (included) that shows the original tank called the ‘Little Yellow Dwarf’.

Conqueror Heavy Super Armored Fighting Suit

This is an article by Brian Krueger, A well-known Maschinen Krueger modeler and website creator. Krueger provides a nice history of the Ma.K kits with a description of his Ma.K website. The kit described in this article is an original design Krueger scratch-built from spares and other materials. The article is a wonderful description of the creative process used by Krueger to visualize the completed figure, and his use of oddball spare materials to build the fighting vehicle/figure. The article also includes a very helpful and educational description of the painting and finishing of the kit.

Float Your Boat, Dragon's Ka-Mi is so cool that we build two of 'em

A six page build article of Dragon’s limited IJN Type 2 amphibious tank, in both a combat version and a tank with floating pontoons. In addition to the nice photos of the model build, there are several reference photos of the actual vehicles.

Bronyetransportyor, Trumpeter's BTR-80 Kit

A build article of Trumpeter’s kit of the Soviet BTR wheeled armored personnel carrier. More excellent photos of assembly and finishing steps with descriptive captions.

Finally Sherman! Building and spicing up the Tamiya kit

Building the M51 Isherman with additional detailing packages from Legend Productions, AFV Club, and more.

Cool Warrior, Trumpeter’s fantastic T-64.

A six-page article with a nice history and description of building the Trumpeter Post-War tank.

Regular features in this issue include:

Short takes - observations on recent new stuff.

Includes brief descriptions of new models, figure sets, etc. Also includes book reviews of recent publications.

MiniMen, A peek at what's new on the figure front

A thorough 6-page review and illustrations of new figures from several different manufacturers, with humorous captions based on the figures poses. This section is a highlight of every issue due to the quality of the figure photographs and the humor in describing them.

Model citizen

A nicely described and illustrated article on how to paint a 1/9th scale German WWII infantrymen with acrylic paints.

MMIR is a high quality, well written magazine that is an informative and enjoyable read for armor and other military vehicle modelers.

Thanks to Ampersand for publishing this great magazine and furnishing a review copy to IPMS USA.
