Model Art Magazine is a monthly magazine that covers aircraft, armor, ships and car modeling. Model Art started releasing magazines in 1966 and has evolved from there over the past forty-six years.

The July issue of model features a main article on vehicles mounted with an 88mm gun, a special article continued from June on the Tamiya 1/32 F-4J Black Bunny, one show report and several monthly short articles.

The issue starts of with a new product report from the Shizuoka Hobby Show 2014. Following that is the special article on the Tamiya 1/32 F-4J "Black Bunny" full detail up. This is continued from the June issue. Anything and everything that could be detailed has been. Next is the IJA/N Airplane illustrated. This month covers mounted fuel tanks from a "Zero". Several color photos and color artwork.

The main article this month focuses on the 8.8cm Pak43 (L/71) mounted on tracked vehicles. For those of you who may not be familiar, this is a version of the famous "88" that the Germans used during WWII. For the article they use several plastic models that used this gun and with each there is a build guide with tips and tricks including mostly color photos with a few black and white. There are also a few line drawings. The models used are two Tamiya 1/35 German SP Heavy Anti-Tank Gun Nashorn built by two different modelers, Cyberhobby 1/35 Sd.Kfz 164 Nashorn 3 in 1, Cyberhobby 1/35 Sd.Kfz 182 Kingtiger Henschel Turret Last Production with transport track, Tamiya 1/35 German Heavy Tank Destroyer Elefant, Trumpeter 1/35 German 8.8cm PAK-43 Waffentrager and the Cyberhobby 1/35 Jagdpanther G2.

Next are several of the monthly reoccurring articles with the first being the "Combined Fleet Organized Course. This month they look at the 1/700 scale "Akizuki" destroyer. There have been three ships starting with IJN and finishing with the JMSDF that have carried this name. All photos are black and white and include period photos and line drawings. Following that is Modeling the JASDF and a continuing series on the F-15DJ and markings.

There is one short article on the Lamborghini, which features several model kits and is illustrated with beautiful color photography.

The last two articles are monthly features. The first is the New kit review. This month Model Art takes a look at the Kitty Hawk 1/32 North American T-6, Dragon M103A1 Heavy Tank, Kinetec 1/48 Fouga Magister, The Kitty Hawk 1/48 SH-2F Seasprite and the Asuka Model 1/24 American Bantam. The last article is the Neo Historic garage. This month’s kit is the Hasegawa 1/24 Subaru Impreza Sport Wagon WRX.

The rest of the magazine consists of future releases of models and model products, book review and hobby shop ads.

Even though Model Art is mainly printed in Japanese, I still find it to be a very valuable resource. For those that are more technologically advanced there are apps that will translate Japanese to English. I use one of these and it really helps to understand the articles. I recommend Model Art to modelers as another publication that you can pull information from.
