While attending the IPMS Nationals in Madison, WI, in July, I was looking for a few specific tools and came across the UMM-USA (Unique Master Models) tables. They had several tools I had been looking for. UMM-USA is an on-line Store, importing and exporting kits, specialized modeling tools and supplies and consulting services (see web site).

UMM-USA had also provided a few product samples to the IPMS Reviewer Corp for review, so I was able to pick up this small hole reamer they produce and a biplane jig/stand kit they retail for review (see the review titled: Biplane - Wooden Jig Stand & Transport)

Using the Reamer

This reamer is designed to enlarge holes in plastic, resin, and soft metals: (copper, aluminum, lead, etc.) by small amounts, with a high degree of accuracy, up to 2.5mm in diameter. I started working on an older 1/48 scale Classic Airframes, Supermarine Walrus biplane kit and I needed to precisely ream holes for the wing struts without oversizing them. The UMM-USA reamer allowed me the precision I needed.
The reamer can also be used to enlarge existing holes in gun barrels and for applying rivets, screws and other surface fasteners.

Conclusions

The UMM-USA Micro Pyramid 2.5mm Reamer is a nice tool for reaming/boring holes for part assembly with great precision. This reamer is a great, inexpensive tool to keep in your arsenal and I highly recommend it.
