The Japanese Aircraft Carrier Akagi (Super Drawings in 3D)
For some time now, I have been wanting to check out a Kagero publication. I see them for sale at the IPMS shows from time to time and I can’t believe I waited this long to get my hands on a copy. The only Aircraft Carrier I have in my stash is the Akagi so I thought this a fitting edition to start with. First of all, I have to say I was gob smacked at the quality of the print. The book is softbound, and contains amazing color images on a full color, gloss A4 sized paper.
The first six pages of the book contain a history of the Akagi, along with a set of dimensions of the Akagi as of June 1942. Spoiler alert, this is the month / year where she met her demise at the Battle of Midway. ☹ The remainder of the book contains at least two per page 3D rendered images of the Akagi. I’m not sure who modeled the ship in CAD, but they did an amazing job. It isn’t just the renders, but the author adds comments related to the area of the ship being presented on the pages. If you are building a model of the Akagi, this book would make an amazing reference for your build.
I can’t stress how amazing this publication is. That’s twice I’ve used that word now. It’s a must-have for a fan of this warship, for naval ship enthusiasts in general, and an invaluable asset for someone building the June 1942 version of the Akagi. So be warned it is just her final version.
Highly recommended!!! I would like to thank Kagero for the opportunity to review this book.
