The Item

If you want to bring your Fly Fiat Model G.50 aircraft kit to the next level, this excellent photoetch detail set is just the thing for you. This extensive PE sheet set has most of the appliqués that can be added to the kit to provide a fully detailed rendering of the Fiat G.50 aircraft.

PE parts generally require certain tools to bend/and manipulate the parts for a good fit. You’ll find those at online and local hobby shops. Adhesion can be done in a variety of ways including thin cements, paint, or even floor polish, depending on the part’s requirements. This set comes with instructions and the parts are correspondingly numbered on the fret tree.

All-in-all this set will definitely enhance the appearance of your Fiat Model G.50 bis fighter.

The Subject

The Fiat G.50 was an Italian fighter aircraft that was used during World War II. Designed by the Italian company Fiat Aviazione, the G.50 was introduced in the late 1930s and served as one of the main fighters in the Italian Regia Aeronautica (Royal Air Force).

The Fiat G.50 was a single-seat, all-metal monoplane with an open cockpit. It was powered by a Fiat A.74 radial engine, which provided it with a top speed of around 500 km/h (310 mph). The aircraft had a range of approximately 780 kilometers (485 miles) and was armed with two 12.7mm Breda-SAFAT machine guns mounted on the engine cowling.

During the early stages of World War II, the Fiat G.50 was one of the best Italian fighters available, possessing good maneuverability and rate of climb. However, it was gradually outclassed by more modern and advanced aircraft introduced by other nations. Despite its limitations, the G.50 was utilized in various combat roles, including air defense, ground attack, and reconnaissance missions.

The Fiat G.50 saw action in different theaters of the war, including North Africa, the Balkans, and the Eastern Front. It participated in several notable engagements, such as the Battle of Britain, where it was used by Italian volunteer pilots as part of the Axis forces. However, the G.50 struggled against the superior British fighters and suffered heavy losses.

Overall, the Fiat G.50 played a significant role in the early stages of World War II for the Italian air force. However, due to its limited performance compared to contemporary aircraft, it became outdated as the war progressed, and more advanced fighters entered service.

Thanks go to Brengun for providing this kit to review and IPMS USA for allowing me to review it for them.
