Scale Aircraft Conversions (SAC) offers an extensive range of replacement landing gear parts for a wide variety of kits. I have some experience using SAC items to replace kit parts and I’ve found that the SAC items add strength to the model without sacrificing any of the detail found on the original parts.

This gear set is designed to be used on the Trumpeter Fairey Firefly kit. The SAC product includes seven parts.

• Port and starboard main gear struts
• Port and starboard gear arms
• Port and starboard gear braces
• Tail wheel. The tail wheel and tail wheel gear “arm” are molded as a single piece.

The SAC parts are very clean, but I did find a small amount of “flash” on the tail wheel at the point at which it would rest on the ground. Working with SAC gear prior to this review set I found that a “swipe” or two along a mold seam with a #11 X-acto blade, or a “wipe” or two with medium grit sandpaper easily removes any residue.

SAC parts fit like “clockwork” and are, by their nature, stronger and more resilient than their plastic counterparts. I’m a bit heavy-handed and I’ve found that the resistance to breakage is a great benefit in my case. While not necessarily an issue with a 1/48^th scale Firefly, the SAC gear offers far more strength and stability to a finished project than the original plastic parts.
