From Coastal Kits website: Founded in 2011, Coastal Kits is a family run business based in Blackpool, Lancashire UK and originally retailed plastic model kits and associated hobby supplies.

During the latter end of 2012/early 2013 we introduced our own range of display bases, encouraged by a successful launch at Scale Model World Telford where they were well received. Because of the success and popularity of the product we decided to concentrate solely on the manufacture and supply of our display bases.

Continually developed, and after listening closely to our customers, the range covers a variety of popular scales and subjects with a choice of over 220. Custom bases are also provided to customer requirements when requested.

The display bases are constructed from durable, hard wearing 3mm Foamex( a PVC product) board, a rigid, weatherproof plastic, printed with the latest odorless latex ink onto laminated, matt vinyl for near photographic quality, giving a permanent and waterproof finish which unlike paper products will not fade, lift or bubble.

Whether an experienced modeler looking to display your favorite model kit, or are looking to enter the world of diorama building, Coastal Kits Display Bases are an ideal way of bringing your model kits to life.

The display base that is the focus of this review is Airfield 15, in 1/72nd scale. The image measures 297mm x 210mm, or for the metrically challenged, 12 x 8 inches. The airfield image depicts a section of tarmac/ hardstand with a smaller portion of runway approach/taxiway. Yellow taxi lines are also present on the image as is some staining (oil stains, fuel spills, etc.) with appropriate wear and tear, (several enlarged gaps between concrete sections, water staining, etc.) common to military tarmacs and runways. There is even a skid mark on the runway approach section.

This display base is ready to use with the only assembly necessary being the removal of the base from a plastic bag. Coastal Display Bases come in various scales (1/72nd thru 1/500th) and are available, domestically, from either Sprue Brothers or Brookhurst Hobbies.

Airfield 15 has the look of a modern airfield but don't let that dissuade you from using it with a more vintage aircraft. This base would work great for displaying a restored C-47 or other vintage 1/72nd scale aircraft at a modern airfield facility. Works great for Egg Planes, too!

As Coastal Display Bases complete line of products is too extensive for the limitations of this article, I strongly encourage you to visit their website. They have a series of display bases with blurred terrain that gives the impression of flight and armor modelers will want to check out the blueprint series, in particular.

My thanks to Coastal Display Bases as well as IPMS/USA for the review copy
