Mitsubishi A6M Reisen Zeke Vol. III

Published:
Book Author(s): Dariusz Paduch
Company: Kagero Publishing

This is the 81st book in the Kagero Monographs series covering aircraft in details, photos, and diagrams. This book is the third volume to cover the Mitsubishi A6M Reisen Zeke.

I found the photographs in this book to be fascinating and very detailed, ideal for any modeler as reference materials. The photographs are extremely good and many I have never seen. The photos provide great details for super detailing any scale model version of the A6M Zeke.

Along with the many photos there are outline drawings, schematics, and very nice profile drawings. The cockpit instrument photos are also a great addition. It would have been great to also include a color photo next to these for reference, but this is a minor issue.

I recommend this book to everyone with… more

A-20 Pin-Up Nose Art Pt III

Published:
Company: Foxbot

This is the third part of a series of A-20 Pin-Up Nose Art sets of decals in 1/72 Scale. I was going to do a product review only but once I saw how nice these were I broke out an old Matchbox A-20 from my stash to use these in a real build.

In the packet is:

  • 2 x sheets of decals (one is stencils)
  • 1 instruction sheet

The decals look very good when removed from the packet. I did have some issues with a few of the decals breaking up when being placed on the model. I did manage to use all the ones I needed with a little patience and rebuilding the broken ones. I do recommend leaving them in the warm water a little longer than you would normally and also leave then on a dry paper towel for a while before using. This I found reduced the… more

Tiny Tim Rocket

Published:
Company: Hauler Brengun

This is Brengun released of a 1/72 Tiny Tin Rocket. This was the first air to ground missile developed and used by the US forces at the end of World War Two.

In the bag is:

  • 2 x light grey resin main rocket bodies
  • 10 x light grey resin tail fins
  • 1 instruction sheet

The resin is well molded with very no flash and are well detailed. The resin parts are to allow you to make the two Tiny Tim Rockets and 2 spare tail fins.

Construction

First is the removal of the parts from Resin. You should be careful removing the main tail fins as they are easily damaged and hence two additional parts are provided.

The build is very easy and simple. The only thing to be aware of is that tail fins tabs are too big wide for… more

Single No 36 Hawker Hurricane IIC

Published:
Book Author(s): Sgt Antoni Beda.
Company: Mushroom Model Publications - MMP Books

This is a very thin book with only 24 pages, but they are very high quality, outline drawing, full of profile pictures, and detailed Photographs of the Hawker Hurricane Mk IIC.

The first 5 pages are dedicated to scaled outline drawings in both 1/72 and 1/48 scales, idea for most scale modelers to use.

The following three pages cover full aircraft shots in action.

Then the next 11 pages are what makes this book really worth buying which is the details pictures and drawings giving some super views for model references.

The last four pages cover a full color drawing of the instrument panel and aircraft profile pictures.

I will be using this book for a upcoming build of a 1/72 Hurricane and it will provide all the detail references I will need. This… more

The Hawker Typhoon - Including the Hawker Tornado

Published:
Book Author(s): Richard Franks
Company: Valiant Wings Publishing

This is the third edition of the 2nd book in the Airframe and Miniature Series. This book covers the Hawker Typhoon and its predecessor the Hawker Tornado. This series of books covers the development of the Aircraft, detailed walk around pictures, profiles and covers model kits and accessories to build them.

I found this book a fountain of information and rare pictures of the development of the Hawker Typhoon. The Profile pictures are a particular favorite and awesome source for modeling.

The chapters on the different model builds and kits are of great interest and will provide a good resource when modeling these two tanks.

I was impressed at the amount of information and history found in the pages of this extremely enjoyable book. The pictures along are worth… more

Royal Marine Officer

Published:
Company: ICM

ICM has released kit of a British Royal Marine Office in their 1/16 figure series. The Royal Marine is in the standard parade uniform with sword.

In the box is;

  • 2 x light grey sprues
  • 1 stand base
  • 1 black sprue
  • 1 instruction sheets
  • 1 box art print

Construction

The construction of the figure is very easy, and they assemble very well. You do need to do a little filling here and there during the assembly.

The base is a nice touch and has optional ground finishes to choose from.

Painting was easy, although I did not use all the reference colors as shown on in the instructions. I did use all Tamiya paints on the figure.

I really enjoyed building these and they look great as a team… more

Doodlebug Texaco

Published:
Company: Brengun

Hauler has provided another addition to the great small scale releases from Brengun with this Texaco Doodlebug (also known as Diamond T Doodlebug). This was a streamlined American tanker truck of the 1930’s. They were part of a project to modernize the Texaco brand at the time.

The detail quality is great; there is a lot of easily removable flash and no other noticeable imperfections. The parts once removed from the mold base are ready to assembly. The parts are very delicate parts that need careful removal while adding to the assembly.

The Assembly is quick and easy. Please be careful cutting the parts. I did have a little damage to the truck interior with the steering column broken but that was a simple fix.

The final part is painted as shown in the box and… more
