Box Art

This is an all-new tooled version of the Hawk and is far superior to the original Airfix version.

This is a kit of the Hawk MIX from Space 1999, this spacecraft appeared in the episode “Wargames”, the kits allows you to build two versions one used in the show and a pre-production version which is the one I opted for.

In the box is:

  • 4 x light grey sprues
  • 1 base mounting wire
  • 1 round dome base
  • 1 decal sheet
  • 1 instruction booklet (Note decal installation instructions are on the box sides)

All the sprues are extremely well molded and great detail; the instruction booklet is easy to follow and well-illustrated. The decal sheet is very large with lots of detail.

Construction

Stage 1, 2 and 3 is the construction of the two side mounted engine pods which had no issues and assembled very well.

Stage 4 and 5 is the assembly of part of the rear main engine and the two side mounted rocket launchers and once again the build was super easy.

Stage 6 and 7 is the assembly of the main hull of the spaceship. Once again a great fit and easy assembly.

Stages 8 through to 10 are the main rear engine assembly. The only thing I would say be careful of is ensure you assemble part 38 after you install the number 4 assembly.

Stages 11 through 14 are the final stages. At stage 11 the parts 9R, 9L, 25 and 26 do have a few injection pin marks that need to be cleaned up. At stage 13 ensure you assemble part 28 before part 29. The rest is a perfect fit and very simple assembly.

Next I primed it black them painted them white, I chose to build the pre-production version as I liked that look better than the one used in the filming of Wargames. Lastly the decals were added and they were easy to do and laid down perfectly, there was a couple of numbering errors but you can see the correct ones very easily with the very clear instructions.

Summary

This was a fantastic kit and really fun to build. I would recommend this to anyone who likes Spaceships and especially Space 1999.

Thanks go to Round2 for providing this kit to review and IPMS USA for allowing me to review it for them.
