Military Modelcraft International is a military modeling magazine produced by Guideline Publications and hails from Great Britain. According to the Military Modelcraft International Magazine website,

Military Modelcraft International is the UK’s leading military modelling magazine, with a truly global reach attracting the best modellers in the world to its pages. Each month MMI brings you a mixture of in-depth build articles, reviews of the latest kits and accessories, superb reference articles, and reports from model shows across the world. MMI’s focus is on providing you with the inspiration and knowledge to improve your own modelling skills and gain more from the hobby whether that be from archive photos and references or modelling tricks and tips.

The reader gets a lot of information and inspiration within its 100 pages for the cover price (£5.99/ $15 price), postage will almost double that price. There is a digital version available which drops the price down to £3.99 for a single issue, or £38.99 for an annual subscription.

The August 2023 issue of Military Modelcraft International contains the following articles:

  • Forum (Editor David Grummitt’s comments about the magazine)
  • News at the Front (New Releases)
  • Barbarossa Barbeque (German Field Kitchen diorama by Stefan Szymanski)
  • Anti-Tank Troopers (Cold War Canadian Anti-Tank M113CAN)

  • Armour in Action (StuG III in Operation Barbarossa, photos by Thomas Anderson as part of a monthly historical vehicle photographic series)
  • Winter Warrior (StuG III Ausf. B by Lukasz Orczyc to tie into the monthly photographic series)
  • Words and Pictures (Roundup of latest military book titles)
  • MMI Online / Stars of the Next Issue (Preview of coming attractions)

This is an amazing military model magazine that focuses on ground combat vehicles. The magazine is high quality, and the images are sharp; in short, this is a joy to read and get inspiration through the beautiful builds within its glossy pages. As you can see from the topics, they are varied and are written about or showcase some of the preeminent modelers of our time. If you attended the Diorama Bases class by Rick Lawler at the recent San Marcos Nats, you could see from his work on the Unimog why he is so talented and in demand (his classes sold out quickly and an additional class was added, also sold out; he also solved the side water dilemma with this diorama!).

While I am one of the readers who enjoys holding a physical copy of what I am reading, the digital subscription is a great option in these days of increased postage and printing costs. I cannot recommend this magazine enough for armor modelers, and I enjoy it so much that I have a subscription.

Profuse thanks to Guideline Publications and IPMS/USA for providing the review sample.
