Many already know that Scale Aircraft Conversions has been pumping out replacement, white metal landing gear sets for some few years now. I believe that this endeavor (Scale Aircraft Conversions) began as a way to provide you, dear modeler, with a sturdier option than what was being supplied by the kit manufacturer. While kit supplied landing gear and struts may have been to scale they were sometimes unable to handle the actually weight of the completed model.

To help solve that issue, Scale Aircraft Conversions has an extensive line of landing gear sets for an extensive number of kits. Adding to that line is a new one designed for the Eduard's series of MiG-21's in 1/144th scale. Scale Aircraft Conversions includes two complete sets of landing gear with this offering. Which is a good thing as there are two complete kits in Eduard's boxing of the 1/144th scale MiG-21.

These are pretty much straight forward replacement parts for the manufacturer supplied ones, so swapping them out for the kit parts is all that's needed. You will need to retain the main landing gear wheels/tires and the kit supplied main gear retraction struts as Scale Aircraft Conversions does not include those items with this release. What you do get are three copies of the complete nose gear and four copies of the main landing gear strut minus the wheels/tires on each of the two metal sprues. So plenty of parts in case you mess up or the carpet gods need a snack.

As an aside, the only minor qualm I have with this release has more to do with the why of it then the why not. I have often wondered about the decision-making process that manufacturers go through when deciding what subject they are going to release. I have also thought that that discussion would make for some interesting reading. Perhaps I'll get the chance to ask the powers that be at Scale Aircraft Conversions during next years ice cream social.

Be that as it may, this replacement set of landing gear in 1/144th scale for the Eduard series of MiG-21's will give those models a proper, sturdier stance those lovely kits deserve.
