The Kokusai Ta-Go is an obscure late World War II aircraft designed by Captain Yoshiyuka Mizuyama of the Imperial Japanese Army as an inexpensive kamikaze aircraft to be used in the Allied invasion of Japan. The Tachikawa Aircraft Company wasn’t interested as they were already overwhelmed with their production requirements. Undeterred, Captain Yoshiyuka Mizuyama built the prototype with volunteers. The original armament was a single 500kg bomb fixed to the aircraft (it couldn’t be dropped and it was designed for a single operation). The aircraft was destroyed in a bombing raid. The Captain then approached the Kokusai Corporation who expressed interest, but wanted it cheaper and lighter. Now vastly underpowered (the aircraft had a wingspan of 8.9m and was 7.4m long, powered by an inline, air-cooled four-cylinder engine producing 110hp), the aircraft could only carry a single 100lb bomb. The aircraft was minimalist and resembled more of a shed than aircraft with its wooden, boxy construction, with the only metal being the engine mounting. Curiously, it sported folding wings – to take up less space. Only one aircraft was produced.

This 2022 new tool accessory set is designed to augment Brengun’s Kokusai Ta-Go kit, the only model available if you want to build this one-of kit. The kit includes an instruction sheet, 1 ¼” x 1 ¼” PE fret, resin details, and a small piece of film to be used for the windshield and very minimalist instrument panel. To appreciate the size and detail on the model, view Brengun webpage link above. For those of you who like very esoteric aircraft and have a proclivity for very small parts, Brengun also makes a model of this diminutive aircraft in 1/144 scale (BRS144053).

If you have experience with small scale and PE, this set will be perfect; of course, if you build aircraft in 1/72, you already have the experience to tackle this PE. As I am not in that category of modeler, I will happily mail this review sample to the first person to contact me.

Profuse thanks to Hauler and Brengun and IPMS/USA for providing the review sample.
