The most delicate parts on an aircraft are antennas and the landing gear. This accessory set doesn’t do anything for antennas, but it certainly makes the landing gear a LOT more durable. When you’re dealing with the skinny little legs provided by the kit manufacturer, you’re constantly in fear of destroying the gear just by setting the aircraft down. This is one of the reasons I put the canopy, gear, antennas and props on after I do the decals.

The "Kit"

You get two sets of landing gear for Hurricanes. This is great, because the Sweet kits are doubles, so you get to replace the gear on both planes. Or, if you’re thinking like I do, you’re going to replace the gear on another Sweet Hurricane from the other set. Sweet produces a “fabric wing” and a “metal wing” Hurricane, and I’ve got both.

The gear is a very good reproduction of the kit parts. In the case of the Sweet Hurricane, the gear and the doors are molded as one part, so it’s not as delicate as the Spitfire I’m going to do next.

Installation

I first painted the parts. I did this at the same time as painting the aircraft, so getting the black and white outer panels was fairly easy. Except that I screwed up and painted the white one three times, white, then black (an error), then white again. Then I painted the unpainted one black.

I painted the interior side with interior green, and left the metal legs metal. (Duh)

I glued the wheels on and then the gear sat until I finished the rest of the painting, decals, etc.

When I was ready, the gear fit perfectly the first try. The parts almost fell into place, and after the CA set, they were solid. I managed to get the alignment very close, and the gear looks marvelous.

Overall Evaluation

Highly recommended. The parts are solid and well molded, and they fit marvelously. I had no problem with paint as far as adhesion and coverage.

Many thanks to Scale Aircraft Conversions for the review item, and thanks to IPMS USA for the chance to review this great product.
