Quickboost has produced replacement “fishtail” exhaust parts for the Academy 1/72 PBY Catalina kits. The resin replacement is a simple drop-in for the kit’s plastic parts. There is no modification required to the kit parts to use these resin replacements. A side by side evaluation (see photos) indicates a replacement of superior detail that will provide a more accurate rendition of the exhaust assemblies. Check your references for the appropriate set to use (some models of the Cat had a straight pipe exhaust). Be sure to wash the parts in soapy water to remove mold release agents and prime prior to using your favorite modeling paints. A-1H Tailwheel ReplacementPublished:
Quickbost has produced a replacement tail wheel for the Tamiya 1/48 A-1H kits. The resin replacements are a simple drop-in for the kit’s plastic parts. The supplied items include two different style wheels and the strut assembly. There is no modification required to the kit parts to use these resin replacements. These items should also work with the Hasegawa A-1H kits with no problems. A side by side evaluation (see photos) indicates a replacement of superior detail that will provide a more accurate rendition of the SPAD’s tailwheel assembly. Replacement P-3 Orion Propellers with ToolPublished:
Quickbost has produced a set of resin replacement propeller assemblies for the Hasegawa 1/72 scale Lockheed P-3 Orion kits. The resin replacement is a simple drop-in for the kit’s plastic parts. The supplied items include a separately cast spinner, post and blades with a cast resin assembly tool for inserting the blades at a consistent pitch. There is no modification required to the kit to use this prop assembly. A side by side evaluation (see photos) with a completed Hasegawa P-3 Orion kit prop assembly indicates a replacement of superior detail that will provide a more accurate and “crisp” blade representation of the P-3 propeller and spinner cap assembly. Quickbost has produced replacement exhausts for the Hasegawa 1/48 F-190 kits. The resin replacements are a simple drop-in substitute for the kit’s plastic parts. The supplied items include all three separate exhaust stacks. There is no modification required to the kit parts to use these resin replacements. The resin parts will need to be cut with a razor saw close to the base of the stacks to fit properly, so use care when removing the stubs. A side by side evaluation (see photos) indicates a replacement of superior detail that will provide a more accurate rendition of the Butcher Bird’s exhaust assemblies. PJ Production is a Belgian firm that specializes in the creation and production of resin scale models and accessories aimed at modelers of military aircraft kits and aviation-related dioramas in 1/72nd, 1/48th and 1/32nd scale. Their lines include fine and accurately detailed cast resin replacement and supplemental parts for model kits in the most commonly produced scales. PJ Productions has produced a resin CRP 37 Pylon for use with Mirage III BS/DS/BJ and Cheetah D aircraft with an RP 825 Drop Tank. (This issue appears to be a separate casting of just the pylon from their set # 481216, which includes the tank). Brengun Models is a scale model and detailing parts manufacturer located in the Czech Republic. Their lines include limited production run multi-media kits and exquisitely detailed photo-etched, turned brass and white metal replacement parts for aircraft in the most commonly produced scales. Brengun has produced a vac-formed canopy for their Hawker Tempest kit. My example kit (an Academy issue is a Mk V), and my research indicates it is the correct version that this particular part issue would be appropriate for. There are no instructions, and any modeler familiar with vacuum formed canopy parts will have no issues installing this canopy in lieu of the kit part. Master has produced replacement cannons of the early type, with un-sheathed barrels for any 1/72 Hawker Tempest early Mk V kits, or early Fury or Sea Fury kits.
