Each marker features a high-precision, flexible brush tip that delivers smooth, controlled strokes—from fine lines to medium and broader coverage—making it perfect for both detailed work and large surface effects without the need to switch tools.
Key Features and Advantages
- Professional Brush Tip: Conical and flexible design allows precise application, ideal for fine detailing and broad weathering effects.
- Watercolor, Transparent Pigments: Colors are transparent, allowing subtle layering without covering the base coat—perfect for creating filters, shadows, dirt, rust, and smooth color transitions.
- Easy Blending & Correction: Fully water-soluble formulas allow you to blend effects or remove them entirely with a damp brush or the blending marker included.

- Vibrant, High-Chromatic Intensity: Shades become more vivid as they dry, enhancing depth and realism.

For this review, I used a piece of styrene painted olive green and applied the Missing Link brushes over three finishes: matte, glossy and on bare paint itself. After applying the Missing Link colors, I realized the olive green washed out the watercolors (pun intended). The attached photos show the expected results; some colors pop, some are barely visible, depending on the color. I then painted three styrene cards in primer gray with the same three finishes (matte, glossy, and on the paint itself). Other colors are more visible and give an example of the density that can be applied. Finally, I painted two styrene cards in white with a matte finish and bare paint, not bothering with glossy as the watercolors did not lay down. It is no wonder that AMMO by Mig recommends a matte or satin finish.
I also used the Missing Link on a couple of models to give a before and after comparison. The 1/72 M2 Bradley in the winter MERDC scheme does a good job showcasing the dirt, earth, and blue gray colors. In the photos of the models, the before image is on top and the weathered model is on the bottom. I also used a 1/35 Panhard 178 that was weathered differently, with the left-hand side weathered and the right-hand side non-weathered. The contrast is subtle and allows the modeler to build up the effects, providing depth.
Is Missing Links Tank Set worth it? It is essentially a wash in a paint marker, and yes, I believe it is worth the cost. The brushes are beautiful to use, and the effect can be easily manipulated by using the tip or side of the brush, pushing down hard or soft, and can flow beautifully into recesses. Best of all, as it is a watercolor, it can be blended with water, diluted, mixed, or removed easily. Will this replace the existing weather products on the market? No, but that is the point, it will augment weathering products and provide modelers with another tool in their modeling arsenal.
Profuse thanks to AMMO by Mig and IPMS/USA for providing the review sample.
