Taking my models to a show or competition is always a little nerve-wracking for me. Transporting the model so it does not break or lose pieces is a challenge. I tried many methods; shredded paper, bubble wrap, soft foam, hard foam with sections cut out; all with various degrees of success (and failure).

That is why I jumped at the chance to review Vertigo Miniatures Transport Jig.

Opening the box, I was surprised to find clear acrylic pieces. Another surprise is the jig only has three legs, where all my other jigs have four legs.

Assembly was easy. The “legs” on the stand needed to be glued together. I used CA glue to do this. There are lines engraved in the leg base that allow easy alignment and gluing. I had one leg fail, and believe I did not put enough CA glue on the parts. I reapplied the glue and have had no issues since then.

Some vinyl “knobs” are provided for the bottom to serve as legs and reduce sliding across the table/bench of the parts. Wing nuts and screws are provided to allow you to adjust the height and expand or contract the distance between the legs.

Felt strips are provided to go across the tops of the wings when using the jig to transport your model.

Another nice feature is notches cut into the legs; this allows you to put/secure your model at a 45-degree angle when needed.

When transporting a model, place the felt strips on top of the wings, and then affix a rubber band on the bottom of the appropriate legs, stretching the rubber band over the wing, and on top of the felt strip. A very easy operation.

Initially using the jig, I missed the fourth leg as the model hangs off the edge.

The wing nuts work, but I am not a huge fan of wing nuts. I would like to see the wing nuts replaced by knobs.

In closing, this is a very good product, and I recommend this jig. I am using it as a jig and transporter with no issues. I would like to thank UMM-USA and IPMS for giving me the opportunity to review the Plastic Stand and Transport Jig.
