F6F Hellcat Individual Tail Planes

Published:
Company: Quickboost

Quickboost just keeps adding to their great line of quality resin aircraft accessories. The latest addition is for the Eduard F6F Hellcat. It is up to their usual standards: molded in grayish colored resin, smooth, seamless and bubble free. One thing of note is that they are really easy to remove from the mold block with just a few passes from a hobby saw.

The tail planes that come in the Eduard kit are okay and are molded as one piece but the Quickboost parts are molded separately so that they can be modeled in the down position with the rudder shifted. The Quickboost parts are superior and add just that much more realism to the finished kit. The resin parts are very easy to install and fit in place perfectly.

I highly recommend this product if you want a really superior… more

F6F-3/5 Hellcat External Fuel Tank

Published:
Company: Quickboost

Quickboost has added the external fuel tank for the Eduard Hellcat F6F-3/5. It is molded in grayish resin, smooth, seamless and bubble free. It also includes a small PE fret for the strapping that secured the tank to the underside of the aircraft.

The external fuel tank in the Eduard kit is okay, but it is molded in two halves, while the Quickboost tank is molded as one piece. The PE strapping is also a plus, adding to the finished look. When adding this tank, there is no surgery involved, making this addition much simpler to install.

I highly recommend this product if you want a really superior looking model. Thanks to Quickboost for supplying the article and IPMS/USA for the chance to do this review.

F6F Hellcat Cowl Flaps

Published:
Company: Quickboost

Quickboost has added a set of cowl flaps for the Eduard 1/72 F6F Hellcat to their line of aircraft accessories. They are molded in grayish resin, smooth, seamless and bubble free.

The Eduard kit includes 3 different cowlings, depending on which version of the Hellcat that is needed. A nice instruction sheet is included showing where the Quickboost parts should go. This set isn’t for the rookie modeler because there is some delicate cutting involved to remove the molded-in flaps. Once the cutting is completed, the cowling will look more realistic.

I recommend this product to the more experienced modeler because of the amount of cutting involved. Thanks to Quickboost and IPMS/USA for the chance to do this review.

Barnabas The Vampire From Dark Shadows

Published:
Company: Round 2 Models

First of all, I would like to state how excited I am to do this review of the Dark Shadows Barnabas vampire model. Dark Shadows has long been an obsession of mine and I jumped at the chance to build my second model. Dark Shadows, developed by Dan Curtis, was a well-loved soap opera with a 5 year run, starting in 1966. The original plot revolved around an orphan girl who came to a small New England town to serve as governess at Collinwood, a large, haunted Victorian manor. The theme included all things spooky, with many story lines borrowed from classic gothic novels of the day: Frankenstein, Dracula, The Picture of Dorian Grey, the Wolfman, Turn of the Screw, H. P. Lovecraft, and others. Jonathan Frid, a Shakespearean actor, played Barnabas… more

AV-8B Harrier II Units of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm

Published:
Book Author(s): Lon Nordeen
Company: Osprey Publishing

Osprey Publishing’s 90th book in the Osprey Combat Aircraft series is about the AV-8B Harrier II. It is the first in a 3-part set on USMC Harrier IIs in combat. This book is about the units of Operation Desert Storm and Desert Shield. The next 2 volumes will be Operations in Iraq and then Afghanistan.

This is a small book but it is jam-packed with color photographs. A couple of things that I really liked were the 8 pages of color plates of the various units that served in these 2 operations, and the firsthand accounts from the personnel. Particularly interesting to me was the section about VMA-311 from Yuma, Arizona. I’m very interested in the various units that have been based in my home state and I’m trying to build as many kits from them as I can.

As with other books… more

F6F Hellcat Headrests in 1/72

Published:
Company: Quickboost

Quickboost has added a set of headrests for the Eduard 1/72 Hellcat F6F to their line of aircraft accessories. They are molded in cream colored resin, smooth, seamless and bubble free.

This set of headrests covers all of the different variants of the F6F Hellcat. I went looking on the internet to see if I could find out which headrest went to which Hellcat. As far as I could tell, the one on the left would go to the F6F-3 while the one in the middle would go to an F6F-5. I couldn’t find anything about the far right one with the larger cushion, but if the aircraft you are modeling needs it, there it is.

Quickboost recommends the Eduard kit for this set, but it could probably be fitted to any other brand of kits. Looking at the Eduard kit part, you will need to scrape off… more

B-24 Liberator Propellers with Tool

Published:
Company: Quickboost

Quickboost just keeps adding to their growing line of quality resin aircraft accessories. This time they have put out a nice set of propellers for the Academy B-24 Liberator. They are molded in grayish resin, smooth, seamless and bubble-free.

The propellers that come in the Academy kit are okay but lack the level of detail that the Quickboost propellers have. The Quickboost ones are just more believable when you look at the finished kit. When you compare them, the Quickboost hub detail is superior and the tool that they include ensures that you have the right pitch. Installing them is also no problem and they could go on almost any other B-24 kit.

I highly recommend this product if you want a really superior-looking model. Thanks to Quickboost and IPMS USA for the chance… more

F6F-3/5 Hellcat Exhausts

Published:
Company: Quickboost

Quickboost has added exhausts for the Academy Hellcat F6F-3/5 to its like of detail sets. They are molded in grayish resin, smooth, seamless and bubble-free.

The exhausts that come in the Eduard kit are okay but just lack the level of detail that the Quickboost parts have. The Quickboost parts are really superior. The biggest plus is that the ends are hollowed out, while the Eduard exhausts are not. This can really save you a lot of time if you were going to hollow out the kit parts, not to mention how great they will look on the finished model. The Quickboost parts for the Eduard Hellcat aren’t just drop-in parts like a lot of other Quickboost parts. The exhausts on the Eduard kit are molded onto the fuselage and will need to be cut and sanded off. Once this bit of surgery is… more

Ju-87G Stuka Spatted Undercarriage

Published:
Company: Quickboost

A new addition to Quickboost’s ever-growing line of resin aircraft accessories is the corrected spatted undercarriage for the Ju-87G Stuka. This set is to correct the spats that come in the Academy kit. It is up to their usual standards – molded in grayish resin, smooth, seamless, and bubble free.

The spats that come in the Academy kit are too short and at a different angle than they should be. A great plus to the Quickboost parts is that all of the separate parts are molded as one piece, eliminating seam lines. All you need to do is pop the wheels in and glue the assembly in place. The resin parts are very easy to install and add a neater appearance to the finished model.

I highly recommend this product if you want a really superior looking model. Usually, replacement… more

B-24 Liberator Bomb Bay Doors

Published:
Company: Quickboost

Quickboost just keeps adding to their great line of quality resin aircraft accessories. The latest addition is for the Hasegawa B-24 Liberator. It is up to their usual standards, molded in grayish resin – smooth, seamless, and bubble-free.

The doors that come in the Hasegawa kit are okay but lack the level of detail that the Quickboost doors have. The Quickboost covers are superior and add just that much more realism to the finished kit. I shaded in one of the doors to show the detail that is molded into the Quickboost part. The resin parts are very easy to install and can be used on any other brand kit that is similarly molded.

I highly recommend this product if you want a really superior looking model. Usually, replacement parts need some work to get them installed… more
