Porsche 911 Turbo

Published:
Company: Revell, Inc.

This is a Level 2 kit and contains 87 pieces. The kit is molded in white, chrome, clear, and clear red plastic. The instruction manual is typical Revell with drawings and pointers.

This kit looks a lot like the Monogram kit I built on my grandmothers back porch in the 70’s. Some web snooping has led to this being linked to the 1976 Monogram release but I couldn’t tell you for sure. What I can tell you is that this kit goes together really well with no real vices. The window fit could be better but I got around that issue with a bit of pressure and strategic gluing. Unfortunately the glue gave up its hold during final assembly. Next time I would cut off the door windows. The engine is only a few pieces but detailed enough to look good. A more accurate and detailed painting guide… more

Acura Integra Type R

This is a Level 2 kit and contains 105 pieces of which you will use 91. There are two different front spoilers and two rear bumpers, three different rear spoilers, and four different sets of wheels included. All of these pieces are molded in white, chrome and clear plastic.

I built this kit in sub assemblies to ease painting. The engine is well done and consists of approximately 10 parts. The main chasis is one piece except for the firewall. The molded in engine bay detail is very well done. The interior consists of about 13 parts plus a decal for the instrument cluster. I don’t know that the Type R had a different interior than a base model, but this one appears to be a standard setup. No racing seats, gauge clusters, etc. There are few suspension pieces and a three piece… more

Wow! If packaging was what it was all about this would be the premier. Not only are all 6 sides emblazoned with super cool pictures, even the inside leaves of the bottom are covered in Crash, Boink, Biffs, and Pows!

Inside the box you'll find 3 black sprues, 2 clear sprues, a sprue of chrome plated parts, decals, instructions, and a pamphlet. The total parts count is 112 pieces for the vehicle and 6 parts for the dynamic duo. All are flash free and well molded. The tri-fold instruction sheet consists of a color guide, 9 assembly drawings, a decal guide, and a separate step at the end for the figures.

My daughter Grace and I started construction on this kit by removing most of the parts from the sprues and cleaning them all up. We followed the order of assembly in the… more

B-29 Big Ed Photo Etch and Mask Set

Company: Eduard

Overview

The molds for the 1/48 scale Revellogram B-29 were born of Monogram’s loins more than 30 years ago, in 1977. Needed or not, Eduard has seen fit to bless us with a huge amount of detail for this monster of a kit. The truth is, Monogram did a pretty good job of detailing kits during this time, so Eduard may have their work cut out for them. Let’s take a look and find out.

The Envelope Please

The Eduard Big Ed set is full of goodies for the 1/48 scale Monogram/Revell B-29. It consists of 8 individual products packaged into one heavy envelope. The items are:

Soviet Air Defense Aviation 1945-1991

Book Author(s): Yefim Gordon & Sergey Komissarov

This isn’t book it’s a tome, and a well done one at that. The large 8.5” x 11” pages are chock full of information, photographs and drawings. The book is broken down into 7 chapters the first four of which are divided by specific eras with the last three tackling specific subjects. One entire chapter deals with the downing of both KAL flight KE902 and KE007.

This is a quality book, not your typical hobby shelf reference fodder. It is nicely bound on heavy stock paper and includes the dustcover as pictured. The pages are well laid out with crisp text and hundreds of unique photographs. The profile drawings are just icing on the cake.

Being a novice when it comes to cold war Soviet aviation I was excited to get my hands on this book. The information contained within its… more

Ghostbusters Ecto-1

Straight out of 1984, look out Zuul, it’s the Ghostbusters ECTO 1! Well actually it’s the 1/25 snap assembly kit from Round 2 Models but it’s just as cool as the full size version. The kit consists of 54 Plastic parts, 4 screws, 2 metal axles, decals and stickers, and finally a simple 4 step illustrated manual. The detail is good enough and the chrome parts look great.

Grace and I made the decision in the beginning to tackle this without the use of any special tools. This meant sprue cutters, scissors, paint brushes, and acrylic paints. All things we guessed the average young modeler probably has access to. Oh, and don’t forget to cover moms kitchen table.

There were no assembly issues with this kit. It went together easily. A few spots did require a bit of glue to keep… more
