Type G4 (W31) WWII German Personnel Car with Open Cover

The G4 personnel car was designed for the Wehrmacht, but was deemed too expensive and complex for mass production. Only 72 were produced for use by high-ranking state and military officials.

Some notes that will make the assembly steps easier:

  • Step 1. Part A15, the transmission, has no part callout number tab on the sprue tree, so it has to be searched for.
  • Step 2-3. Watch for the light mold seam flash on the intake manifold. Also, take care with the delicate generator belt, it is a fragile part.
  • Step 4-6. Test and sand-to-fit the inner tire rings to fit properly. Also, test fit the tires on the axle mounts, as the tire hubs may need to be drilled deeper for better engagement.
  • Step 7-9. Take care with delicate frame cross members and mounts, and watch for light mold seams.
  • Step 10-13. Again, there is no part number locators on the sprue trees for parts C58 and C49. Take great care with parts C53, the tie rods, as they are very delicate and can easily be broken when removing them from the sprue trees.
  • Step 14. You’ll need to search for part C22 visually, as it’s not marked on the sprue tree, and part C15 is mistakenly marked as E15.
  • Step 15. Test fitting with the tires, once assembly is completed, will help ensure the rear wheels sit flat on the ground. Drilling the axle hole deeper can provide for greater engagement into wheel hub.
  • Step 16. Part C55 is really part A55. Watch for the pin sink mark on the top front. After assembly of the exhaust pipes, set the pipes aside until after the assembly of the body to the chassis.
  • Step 17-27. The only hiccup in these steps was when the delicate seatback grab handles broke while being removed from the sprue trees. These were replaced with the same size wire bent to fit.
  • Step 28. Beware pin marks on the parts in this step.
  • Step 29-40. Watch for lots of delicate and fragile parts, most with slight mold seam flash that may be easier removed while parts are on the sprue trees.

One of the main pluses of the kit is the inclusion of lots of detailed parts that are delicate and fragile. These delicate and fragile parts can also be a bit of a minus, along with slight mold seam flash on most parts and a few sink marks.
