SB2U Vindicator Exhaust
Quickboost has added an aftermarket detail set that seems to me to be a questionable choice on their part. It is a set of resin exhaust ports for the Accurate Miniatures 1/48 SB2U Vindicator kits. As can be seen in the photos below, the Quickboost parts (pictured between the kit parts on the sprue) are virtual duplicates of the kit parts with only a small improvement in the sidewall thickness…Something that most model builders of average skills should be able to duplicate by using a number 11 Xacto blade or a pin vice with a suitable drill bit to increase the opening in the kit parts. The Quickboost parts are nicely cast and can be separated easily from the casting block and attached with super glue if the modeler chooses. However, unless I’ve missed the point completely, I believe it would be a waste of money to incur the cost of adding resin parts that don’t appreciably add something to the detail of the kit parts that can not be duplicated in a matter of minutes with a sharp blade or drill bit…so, this part really is not recommended, unless you are one of those who just must use a resin aftermarket part.
If you are unable to alter the kit parts, or believe you don’t have the skill to do so, and see a value in this aftermarket parts, go for it. They will just drop in, in place of the kit parts. But, in my opinion, there probably are other more worthy aftermarket detail parts to spend money on than Quickboost’s resin exhaust pipes for the Accurate Miniatures 1/48 Vindicator kits.
I appreciate receiving these detail parts to review and thank IPMS/USA and Quickboost for the opportunity to review them.
