Sanding Sticks Collection (Multipurpose, Standard and Large Surface)
This review covers the following standing sticks from the AMMO line
- Standard sanding stick with grits 180/320/600/2000; MSRP: $1.50
- Large Surfaces sanding stick with grits: 320/600/4000; MSRP: $2.10
- Multipurpose sanding stick with grits 150/240/320/600/1200/2000; MSRP: $2.30
All these sticks have the different grits identified by color coding each surface of half-surface. Their size is large enough to fit well and comfortable in your hand.
They are flexible, so you can use them in any task that requires following curved surfaces. They are padded (in particular the Large Surfaces one), which means your hand does not need to follow a curved path, the padding of the sanding stick will do that for you.
The Multipurpose stick is a workbench workhouse that could be used from shaping parts with its 150/240 grit, all the way to polishing parts with its 2000 grit.
The Standard stick is a more delicate tool, I use it mainly when I need to correct a small step or to provide a very smooth plastic surface for a gloss paint job.
The Large Surface stick is the most delicate tool of them all, with its double padding to ensure it will follow all curved surfaces. It’s 600 and 4000 grit can be used to achieve a high polish for clear parts and probably even to high polish a plastic part that would be finished in a natural metal finish.
Although I have only used them for less than two months, they have been used in a kitbash project -which requires a good share of shaping, sanding and polishing- and they do seem to be durable. Running them under water removes most of the sanded plastic and prevents ‘blinding’ the grit.
These sticks are great tools and each has its own niche application. They are very affordable so I would suggest you purchasing them all.
Highly recommended.
I would like to thank IPMS/USA and AMMO for the review sample.
