Tamiya has produced a new KV-2 kit based on the new tooled KV-1 from a couple of years ago with new tooled KV-2 Turret.

In the box is:

  • 7 x dark green sprues
  • 1 clear sprue
  • 1 small decal sheet
  • polycaps
  • string for cables
  • 1 instruction booklet
  • 1 color guide booklet (in color)

The kit consists of 7 main sprues, the sprues are extremely well molded with great detail; the decals allow you to finish the tank with 2 markings to choose from.

Construction

First is the construction of the lower hull, suspension and road wheels etc. These are stages 1 through 10. The build, as with all Tamiya kits, is seamless and no issues. All the parts go together extremely well

Stage 11 is the tracks are next and are length and link type which I was worried about as they can prove a pain to install. I was pleasantly surprised how well they fitted and was so easy to assemble! They look awesome when complete I did assemble the tracks to the wheels and make an assembly I could remove and paint away from the main tank.

Stages 12 to 15 are the details on to the upper hull; you can choose to have any of the hatches open or closed. I only had the drivers hatch open so I could use the figure included.

Stages 16 to 21 are the turret assembly. The whole build is easy and without filling for and major sanding. I did choose to have the rear hatch gun port open as a added feature. I do think the kit would have been better with a metal barrel rather than the three part plastic one.

Stage 22 is the build of the two figures with are finely detailed and nice addition.

Stage 23 is the final assemble of adding the turret and cables.

Then it is on to do the painting and one decal as I did the Russian Army 1941 unit.

Summary

This was a fantastic kit, it goes together like a dream and I highly recommend it.

Thanks go to Tamiya for providing this kit to review and IPMS USA for allowing me to review it for them.
