Pen and Sword Publishers has added to their TankCraft Series. Volume Number 7 titled: Panzer I & II – Blueprint for Blitzkrieg 1933-1941 by Robert Jackson.

This softbound book is 64 pages. Included are some nicely done color profiles, many period wartime photographs, a summary of variants and some description of development, along with a section devoted to modeling the Panzer I & II.

The book starts with some background on German armor development but quickly gets into the Panzer I & II design and development. The variants of each model are discussed and photos of many of the examples are included. A separate section includes later war variants which used the Panzer I & II chassis for other vehicles. For example the Marder and Wespe. The book is well illustrated with some photographs I have not seen before. The color profiles were done just for this publication and are a nice touch for the book.

Of special interest to the plastic modeler is the 20-page section devoted building the Panzer I & II. Photos of built models are included along with a quick write up on the build featured. These pages are also in full color and show some nicely done finished armor models in scales ranging from 1/35 down to 1/100.

The final section of the book covers the Panzer I & II in Combat. Here there are more period photos and a nicely done summary of some of the combat action the tanks were involved in.

This is a well-done book for a good price. There is just the right amount of detail in a book that has limited pages, and the color profiles are very well done. Enough to perhaps even inspire the next armor build!

I would certainly recommend the book for all those interested in WWII German armor – especially if you have an interest in the pre-early war vehicles. For the price, I can also recommend this to the model builder with even a passing interest in the subject. There are enough images and information here for anyone to add to their library or reference stack for a good price.
