P-40B Warhawk Exhaust
Want an easy upgrade to the new 1/48 Airfix Curtiss P-40B? Step right up to the new Quickboost P-40B exhausst set that provides a beautiful replacement to what is supplied in the kit. The parts are packaged in the standard Quickboost re-closable packaging with a paper stiffener along with the description card. Although these parts are specific to fit the 1/48 Airfix P-40B injected plastic kit, they might be able to be modified so that they would also work for older 1/48 P-40B/C kits (Monogram/Hasegawa/Revell , Academy / Hobbycraft , Bronco , Pegasus, Trumpeter .
Quickboost has molded the exhausts perfectly in light grey resin with no apparent bubbles. The Quickboost exhausts are hollowed out and have the appropriate raised seams on the back of each individual exhaust. I used a razor saw to remove the exhausts from the sprue and then a #11 scalpel blade to clean up the thin supporting sprue. You want to be careful as the exhaust supporting strip is rather flexible and could easily break if you push it. I would definitely not recommend using side snips to free the Quickboost exhausts from their sprue. Preparation time was less than five minutes for both exhausts. Although most paints will adhere to resin alone, I would recommend that you wash the parts to remove any remaining mold release and prime them first. They will need to be installed with your favorite CA (super glue) or epoxy, as the normal plastic glues or solvents will not react with the resin.
This product is a good way to enhance your Airfix 1/48 P-40B and well worth the time and cost. This product is highly recommended due to the superior appearance of the Quickboost parts over the injected kit parts.
